Brent J Garlick passed away quietly at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah after a battle with cancer on February 19, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him.

Brent was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 11, 1962, to Wendell Vearl and Darlene Janice Garlick. While he was born in Salt Lake City Brent spent most of his life in Centerville, Utah. Brent attended JA Taylor Elementary, Centerville Junior High, and Viewmont High school where he would meet his future wife Cindi Pace. Brent served a fulltime mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in Des Moines, Iowa. After returning home from his mission, he and Cindi dated for a short period of time before he proposed to her. Brent and Cindi were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity on December 2, 1983. Brent and Cindi went on to have 7 Children who loved and adored their dad.

Brent was a hard worker his whole life and worked hard to provide for his family. Brent started his career at Bingham Engineering where he was hired as a draftsman and ended as a controller. During his time at Bingham Engineering, Brent started drafting manuals for aircraft ground equipment all while going to school at the University of Utah and earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting with minors in computer systems and finance. Brent needed experience as an auditor to further his career, so he left Bingham Engineering and started at Deseret Management Company where while working there he earned his MBA from Colorado State University. Ultimately Brent ended up at Ag Reserves where he has spent the better part of the last 2 decades. Brent achieved his dream job of being the CFO for Ag Reserves where he learned and knew more about the farms and ranches under his care than any other employee. We are forever grateful to Ag Reserves for the care, love, and support they showed our family as we navigated Brent’s battle with cancer.

Brent was an avid reader and loved learning. He often incorporated both into one of his favorite hobbies which was genealogy. Brent loved reading and learning about his ancestors and had several subscriptions to genealogical websites and was determined to learn all he could about them. He embodied the spirit of Elijah truly turning his heart to his fathers. At the time of Brent’s passing, he was registered to take some classes to learn more about genealogy through a university in Glasgow, Scotland and often dreamed of earning a PhD in genealogy.

Brent was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Brent loved the gospel and his Savior. Part of the reason he loved his job so much was because he felt that through the work he was doing, he was helping build the kingdom of God here on earth. Brent held many callings over his lifetime including bishop, high counselor, ward clerk, young men’s advisor, and most recently primary teacher, however, his favorite calling was as the scout master. Brent loved taking the young men camping and spent more than 100 nights in the forests, deserts, and mountains teaching young men about faith and his love for the Savior. Brent’s influence can still be found on campouts where young men and leaders prefer to sleep under the stars instead of in tents.

Most of all Brent loved his wife Cindi and family. Together they worked hard and played hard. Brent and Cindi taught each of their children that working and playing can go hand in hand. Many days and nights were spent together working on projects for the farm while laughing and building fires to roast hot dogs. Brent loved camping with his children and grandchildren and taking them on hikes through the woods in the Uintah mountains. While camping Brent spent time fishing with his family and putting together cowboy shooting competitions encouraging us to have fun together.

Brent will be missed by many but most of all by his spouse, children, and grandchildren. We are grateful for all the care and love that he received at the hands of his care teams at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We want to thank them for the kindness and compassion that they showed to both Brent and his family throughout his battle with cancer.

Brent is survived by his loving wife Cindi Garlick, 6 Children, Heather (Arthur) Healey, Lyndsey (Mike) Healy, Rebecca (Ty) Price, Allison Garlick, Blake (Rebecca) Garlick, and Stewart (Nicole) Garlick, 15 Grandchildren Darla, Max, Elaine, Charlie, Gideon, Addison, April, Joseph, Lucy, Melissa, Su, Brandon, Brandi, Cora, and Hunter, his dad Wendell Vearl Garlick and his siblings Kevin, Mike, Paul, Troy and Kristine. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, mom Darlene Janice Garlick, sister Darlene Garlick, brother John Garlick, sister Lynda Garlick and son Brandon J Garlick. May they have a joyous reunion and take care of each other until we can meet again.
