Brenda Flamm Harris, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 18, 1962 in Rexburg, Idaho to James and Colene Flamm.
Brenda grew up in Rexburg, where she graduated from Madison High School. She served in student government and was MVP of her state championship-winning basketball team her senior year. Her blend of kindness and competitiveness stayed with her throughout life, whether dominating on the tennis court, mastering pickleball, or playfully beating her family and friends in card games while offering a warm, “You did so good.”
Brenda married Barry Dee Harris, and together they raised seven children: Kelsey, Dallin, Kyle, Blake, Landin, Jace, and Ryan, who were the center of her world, along with her three granddaughters. She was deeply involved in her children’s lives, supporting late-night homework sessions (often thanks to her kids’ procrastination), driving thousands of miles to lessons, games, and practices, and earning six Eagle Scout awards right alongside her boys. Though cooking wasn’t her favorite pastime, she prepared tremendous amounts of food over decades for six hungry boys and one girl, a true expression of love. She also spent countless hours volunteering in their schools and later worked full-time for the Davis School District, where she cared deeply for every child she met.
Faith and service were central to Brenda’s life. She served faithfully in many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women, and as an ordinance worker in the Layton Utah Temple, a role she cherished. Her compassion extended beyond the church and into the community, as she volunteered with refugee families and offered steady, quiet support wherever she saw a need.
Brenda had an extraordinary ability to connect with others. She listened not just to hear, but to understand and to get to know a person. She was a natural “patter,” gently patting your arm, grasping your elbow, or wrapping you in a hug. Even strangers or those who weren’t naturally comfortable with hugs couldn’t resist Brenda’s warmth and genuine care.
She was endlessly curious and undaunted by new challenges. She returned to school after her children were grown, earning her bachelor’s degree. Brenda could also teach herself anything, from tiling floors and painting walls to landscaping, gardening, drawing, and painting. She was a self-taught artist, exploring watercolor, charcoal, pencil, and gouache (which, she often laughed, no one else could pronounce). She approached every project with energy and enthusiasm, and Barry often joked that if he didn’t keep moving, Brenda would paint or tile right over him.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Barry; her children, Kelsey, Dallin, Kyle, Blake, Landin, Jace, and Ryan; her grandchildren, Harper, Carson, and Chandler; her parents, James and Colene Flamm; and her siblings, Sherri Erickson, Susan Sutton, and Kevin Flamm. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Moser.
