Boyd Ray Cox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away April 12, 2026 — or, as he would say, “graduated”—leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family. He was born on August 15, 1934, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Willie Raymond Cox and LaRue White Cox.

Boyd and his mother moved to Kaysville, Utah, during his junior year of high school, where he graduated from Davis High. On September 13, 1957, he married the love of his life, Connie B. Cox, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they built a strong and loving family, raising six children and welcoming 28 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, each one a source of immense pride and joy.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps as a teletype operator during the Korean War. Following his military service, Boyd served an LDS mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States and remained a devoted and active member throughout his life. He served faithfully in many callings in the Kaysville 4th Ward and spent several years as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple.

Education and teaching were central to Boyd’s life. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, and a Doctorate in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction from Brigham Young University. Boyd dedicated 25 years to teaching fifth and sixth grade in the Davis County School District and later served as director of the Utah Boys Ranch Academy. His passion for education continued as he taught math at Salt Lake Community College for eight years.

Boyd was deeply involved in scouting his entire life and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was honored with the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his exceptional service and leadership.

Above all, Boyd cherished his family. He found his greatest joy in time spent with them and was especially fond of his loyal Shih Tzu companion, Buster.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, Ryal (Renae) Cox, Shelley (Matt) Ensign, Troy (Jeanette) Cox, Trent (Brenda) Cox, Staci (Jon) Lewis, Ginger (Mike) Lee; and his half-sister, Nada Cox.

Boyd will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith. His legacy will endure in the lives he touched, the students he taught, and the family he loved so dearly.

Friends may visit with the family at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah, on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

A family graveside service will follow in accordance with Boyd’s wishes. Interment will take place at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah.
