Bonnie Jean Baird Checketts, a beautiful daughter of God and a bright example of Christlike kindness, returned home to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 26th, where she was reunited with her sweetheart and dancing partner Bob Checketts. Her life was filled with joy, faith, and a sincere desire to serve others. She was known for her warm smile and contagious laughter. Bonnie was born April 17th, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in Aurora Colorado with her late sister Donna and brother Jimmy. She attended Kenton Elementary school, William Smith Jr. High, and Aurora Central High School. Bonnie volunteered as a Candy Striper at the Fitz Simmons Army Hospital in the pediatric ward and helped with the babies. She attended early morning Seminary in a medical building which was 3 blocks from her house. She faithfully walked to seminary every morning and graduated with a completion certificate of 4 years of seminary. Bonnie graduated from Ricks college in 1966 with an associates degree in home economics. After college, Bonnie returned home to Colorado and started working at Red Seal Potato Chip Company in the office. She also had summer jobs working at Arten’s, a retail store, and Western Electric as a clerk. In her later years she worked as a lunch lady at an elementary school.
Bonnie loved performing and dancing. She participated in traveling road shows in her high school years and many stake musicals and road shows throughout her life. She participated in a dance festival for 2 years called Beyond the Blue Horizon. In 1968, Bonnie moved to California and joined the Grand Land Patriotic singing group.
In 1969, Bonnie attended “Mr. Sun Beach Party” in Huntington Beach California, that is where she met her eternal sweetheart Bob, the love of her life. They both shared a love for dancing. They would meet at dances in East LA and go to dances at Disneyland. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles temple on April 10, 1971. They were blessed to have five wonderful children: Jason, Allison, Jeremy, Amy, and Annie.
Family was at the heart of everything Bonnie did. Her devotion to her loved ones and children was deep and unwavering. She cherished the eternal bonds she knew would unite them again. She created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the Spirit, and her influence will continue to bless generations. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren and wanted to be involved in their lives as much as possible.
Bonnie lived with a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and found peace and purpose in following Him. She loved attending church, serving in many callings, including relief society president, yw president, and stake YW president. Her favorite calling was serving in primary and singing primary songs. She shared her faith and love through quiet acts of compassion and service. Her life reflected the Savior’s teachings-loving others, lifting spirits through laughter and compassion, and offering comfort wherever and whenever it was needed.
Though her earthly journey has ended, we rejoice in knowledge of the Plan of Salvation-that because of Jesus Christs’ atonement, families can be together forever. We take comfort knowing that Bonnie has been welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and her eternal sweetheart. Bonnie will be remembered for her kindness, joyful heart, and her steadfast faith. Her legacy of love, service, laughter and devotion to the gospel will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Bonnie is survived by her brother Jimmy; and her children Jason(Mandy), Allison, Jeremy(Missy), Amy Uigaese (Elvin), and Annie; Eleven grandchildren; Elle Olsen (Luke), Ryder, Jayden (Savannah), Mckenzie, Kayla, Madi, Lex Uigaese, Layke Uigaese, London Uigaese, Bryonna, and Brooklynn.
