1934 Betty 2024

Betty Butcher Robertson

November 10, 1934 — February 3, 2024

Bountiful, UT

Betty Butcher Robertson passed away on February 3, 2024, at the age of 89. Betty was born on November 10, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents Percy and Alice Hemingway Butcher. Her journey began with an early arrival, weighing only three pounds, as her mother faced the complications of appendicitis. Amidst the hardships, the family sought comfort in one another, forging a strong family connection.

After graduating from South High in 1953, she embarked on a new chapter, marrying Melvin Robertson the same year, just as he was drafted. The couple faced the joys and trials of life together, welcoming six children in seven years. Tragically, they experienced the heartbreak of losing their beloved Cindy Mae at three months to crib death. Four years later they joyfully welcomed their seventh and final child into their loving home. In 1960, Betty and Melvin set roots in Bountiful, creating a home filled with joy and countless memories.

Betty found happiness in the company of her siblings, relishing in the warmth of their gatherings in a small, cherished house. Facing the demands of raising a large family, Betty admirably worked, often splitting shifts to ensure she was present for family dinners. Her resilience was tested when Melvin faced Guillain-Barré syndrome, leading to his retirement just as her mother joined their household. In 2016, after an incredible 63 years of marriage, Melvin left this world, leaving Betty with cherished memories and a strength that would guide her through the challenges that lay ahead. Betty displayed remarkable strength through heart aortic stenosis and back surgeries in her final years.

Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, an infant daughter, and a great-granddaughter. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Vickie (Mike) Fairbourne, Mike (Cindy) Robertson, Mark (Yvonne) Robertson, Terry (LaRee) Robertson, Wendy (Paul) Heugly, and Connie (Zach) Tedrow. She leaves behind one sister, Wilma (Del) Bowers. Her family extends to 21 grandchildren, 47 great- grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her spirit forward.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.  A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday afternoon from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, prior to services.

In one of her final expressions, Betty shared the comforting words to her family, "No matter where I go, I will find you." Today, as we say our goodbyes, we celebrate the enduring love, strength, and positivity that defined Betty Robertson's remarkable journey through life. May her memory be a source of comfort to all fortunate enough to know her.
