Betty Rose Sunderlage Getzelman passed away peacefully at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah with her family by her side on January 29, 2026. Born November 29,1932 in Elgin, Illinois to Erwin and Ella (Krog) Sunderlage, she grew up on different farms with her parents in Northern Illinois. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1950. She met the love of her life, Lyle “Pete” Getzelman, in their junior year of high school and they were married for 74 years. Together, they raised three successful sons and when they had the opportunity, would travel to various parts of the world. In 2003, they moved to Bountiful, Utah to be closer to their family.
Known for her kindness, smile, and work ethic, she was a woman of many talents – she not only assisted in the design and building of multiple homes with Pete, she enjoyed refurbishing antiques, was an amazing cook, and was an accomplished seamstress, placing her own tag, “Made with Love by Mom”, in the clothes she made. She was a talented organist, playing for numerous Lutheran churches for over 30 years. She had a passion for genealogy and was an active member of The Elgin Genealogical Society. She found joy in cultivating her flowers and being in her garden. She was a woman of faith and a devout Lutheran all her life. She lived her life-giving service to not only her family, but to her community and beyond.
She is survived by her husband, 4 siblings, Shirley, Donna, Duane, and Gene, her 3 children, Neil (Jane), Harold (Jeanne), and Brian (Sarah), 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and 2 siblings, Gordon and William.
