Barbara Ann Ray Jones peacefully passed away at her home of over 70 years on October 31, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. In her final days, she was surrounded by her devoted husband and loving family.
Barbara was born in Ohio to George Kelly Ray and Ellen Beth Sellers Ray, the first of three children. Her family later relocated to Utah in her early childhood, where she grew up alongside her younger brother, Kelly, and sister, Ellen, in Bountiful.
After graduating from high school, Barbara’s adventurous spirit led her to an unexpected encounter that would change her life forever. One night while hitchhiking with friends, fate intervened when Eugene R. Jones stopped to offer them a ride. From that night on began a journey together that would last 65 years.
Together, Barbara and Gene built a beautiful life and raised four children: Todd, Brett (Tawny), Daniel “Danny” Kelly (Teri), and Kristin “Kristy” Ann (Sean). Their marriage was filled with laughter, teamwork, and countless memories. The two shared a love for bowling—playing together in leagues for most of their lives—and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Barbara experienced deep loss with the passing of her beloved daughter, Kristin “Kristy” Ann, in 2016, and her cherished daughter-in-law, Teri, in 2021. Though these losses weighed heavily on her heart, her enduring faith and love for her family continued to shine through.
Barbara took great joy in being a grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Ryan (Krista), Wesley, Mason, Emery, and Kara (children of Kristy); and Madison, Jessica, and Josh (children of Danny). She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: James and Oliver (children of Ryan), and Jaxson and Paislee (children of Madison). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her for her warmth, humor, and the quiet strength that always made them feel loved and at home.
Barbara’s life was marked by love, resilience, and deep devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her sense of humor, and her amazing Sunday roasts. She is survived by her husband Gene, her Sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings. Barbara will be deeply missed and forever loved.
