Barbara Elva Crompton Nichols

November 26, 1929 — August 12, 2021

Barbara Elva Crompton Nichols (1929 – 2021) passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 12, 2021 in Bountiful, Utah, with her son Geary by her side. She was 92 years old and she will be dearly missed. She was a little spitfire who was born in Evanston, Wyoming to Theodore Roosevelt Crompton and Amy Lym Crompton. She was raised on a ranch where she learned the meaning of hard work and there was no doubt that she knew the difference between right and wrong and she wouldn’t hesitate to tell you, regardless of who you were. She later met and married H. Duane Nichols and they had two children before moving from Evanston to Bountiful where they had two more children.

After moving to Bountiful she worked alongside Duane at Nichols Adjustment Bureau. Later she went to work for ZCMI working during the holidays in the gift wrapping department, which then turned into a full time position working in other departments, until their closing. Afterwards she enjoyed helping her son Shawn with his company Appearances Catering until his passing, and then went back to helping Duane at Nichols Adjustment Bureau until his passing. Barbara also spent several years as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple. She enjoyed doing puzzles (which she did daily almost right up to the end) and excelled in many other hobbies and crafts. Some of her specialties were hand dipped chocolates and hard candy suckers. Crocheting beautiful blankets was also one of her talents. She had a gift for making anything that she touched look beautiful, whether it was wrapping presents or preparing food. There were not many classes that she didn’t take to learn how to do new things. Among those, calligraphy was one that she excelled at, which was no surprise because her hand writing was impeccable right up to the end of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Ted and Amy Crompton, two brothers; Clarence and Gene Crompton, son; Shawn Nichols, husband; H. Duane Nichols, and daughter; Kim Nichols. She is survived by son; Geary Nichols (Charrie), daughter; Leslie Nichols and granddaughter; Ashley Nichols.

The family would like to thank the entire staffs of North Canyon Skilled Nursing Facility and Oak Ridge of Bountiful Assisted Living for the loving care and support that they gave to Barbara, as well as the family, over the past several months.

There will be a graveside service held on Saturday August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
