Allen James Strong, 72, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 19, 1953, in Provo, Utah, to Paul and Joyce Strong.
Allen grew up in a close and loving family and was a gifted athlete from a young age. He excelled in baseball, football, basketball, and track and was awarded the Best All Around Athlete of 1972 at Provo High. Additionally, he earned All-State honors in both football and baseball and accepted a full-ride scholarship to play football at Brigham Young University. There, he earned a degree in Recreation Education and has been the life of the party ever since.
He faithfully served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Portland, Oregon Mission from 1973 to 1975.
Allen married his high school sweetheart, Michelene Smith, on January 23, 1976, in the Provo Utah Temple. Together they built a beautiful life in Kaysville, Utah, where they raised their three daughters: Julie, Tara, and Ashlee. Allen’s unmatched work ethic and endless energy allowed him to provide well for his family while working as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad as well as a contract negotiator at Hill Air Force Base.
His hard work eventually allowed him to retire early and devote more time to serving others. One of his greatest joys was serving a full-time mission alongside his wife in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission, where they taught institute classes and influenced countless lives. He also served for many years as a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden, Bountiful, and Layton Utah Temples. In addition, he completed service missions at the Ogden Cannery and spent eight years serving as an LDS provider at the Davis County Jail.
These are only a few examples of the “yes man” mentality that defined Allen’s life. His Christlike love and willingness to serve everyone he met reflected the importance he placed on accepting every calling and fulfilling it to the very best of his ability.
Allen’s boundless enthusiasm fueled a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He ran more than 25 marathons, collected coins, never missed a day at the gym, and loved road-tripping to temples and stadiums across the country. He also had countless quirky interests too numerous to list, but above all, he loved his dogs.
Allen and Michelene’s greatest accomplishment was creating a family centered on faith, traditions, unity, fun, love, and togetherness. Their family motto, “Stronger Together,” will forever be cherished.
Allen is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Michelene; his three adoring daughters and their husbands, Julie and Chad Brophy, Tara and Kyle Turner, and Ashlee and Luke Johnson; and his pride and joy, his 15 grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and who deeply loved their Papa: Cameron, Cozette, Tanner, Davis, Austin, Emree, Brynlie, Jace, Tess, William, Travis, Briggs, Holland, Blake, and Quincy.
He is also survived by his five siblings and their spouses: Larry and Mary Strong, Tricia and Cortney Dana, Darla and Bruce Hall, Gordon and Stacy Strong, and Kelly and Jury Strong.
The Strong family wishes to thank all those who provided love, comfort, and medical care during this difficult time. Your support has meant the world to us.
