Funeral Home Russon Mortuary Bountiful
Nancy Jean (Nelson) Michelsen of Bountiful, Utah passed away September 8, 2021. She was born on August 14, 1938 in Ida Grove, Iowa to Niel Hansen Nelson and Bernice Amelia Kelling.
On December 14, 1956, she married Gerald (Jerry) Duane Smith in Elko, Nevada. Together they had three children eventually settling in Bountiful, Utah. Living in Bountiful was one adventure after another with many wonderful memories of trips to southern Utah, Water skiing at Pineview reservoir, snow skiing at Utah’s many ski resorts, and just having a blast as a family. Nancy worked for several years in the school cafeteria at Millcreek Junior High in Bountiful. Jerry and Nancy later divorced in 1979.
Later she met and married Walter J. Michelsen on November 16, 1988 in Salt Lake City. They lived in Holiday, Utah and spent much time working, traveling, and making their regular trips to Lake Powell for some fun in the sun. When Nancy and Walt retired from his medical practice, they moved to a warmer climate in Sun City West, Arizona. Walt pasted away in 1998 after a valiant battle with cancer. Nancy then moved to Cave Creek, Arizona where she worked for the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona for several years before she herself decided to retire.
Nancy loved her plants and flowers and had a green thumb like her mother. She was a fantastic cook and especially loved her cats and dogs. She always tried hard to have the hummingbird feeders full for her favorite hummingbirds.
Nancy is survived by her two sons Jerry (Mary) Smith, and David (Janette) Smith, six grandchildren; Jennifer (Jason) Munk, Kody (Annie) Smith, Brittney Jewett, Jessica (Michael) Kjar, Ian and Conner Smith, and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Susan Hastings, Husband Walter J. Michelsen, her two brothers Doug and Jerry Nelson, and one sister Joan Smith
