Obituary

George Marlin Nelson, age 76, passed away February 6, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after a short battle with renal carcinoma cancer.
He was the second oldest child born to George Malin and Verl Pearson Nelson.
He graduated from Granger High School in 1962.  He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission, from November 1962 to November 1964,  learning to speak the Navajo language.
After his mission he enlisted to serve in the Air Force Reserves where he served for 6 years from November 1964 to November 1970.  He also served for a time on the Salt Lake City Police Reserves.
On May 25, 1968, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Burnside in the Manti Temple.   They made their home for 3 years in Centerville and have since resided in West Bountiful where they have raised their family.
Marlin previously worked at Nu stone Concrete making precast fireplaces and made and installed the fireplace in their home.  He also worked at Contech Construction Products making culvert pipe.  But his favorite place to work was at Murdock Chevrolet selling cars until he retired in 2012,  He was so people oriented and made so many wonderful friendships there.   He received many awards including salesman of the year.
He served in various church callings including executive secretary and counselor in the Bishopric as well as High Priest Group leader, Sunday School teacher, & Cub Scout leader.  He and his wife, Dorothy, served for 3 yrs as service missionaries at the Kaysville Bishop Storehouse and for almost 9 yrs as ordinance workers at the Bountiful Temple. They were recently called to serve a temple mission in the Stockholm Sweden Temple, but were not able to serve due to his sudden illness.
Marlin made instant friends with everyone he came in contact with.  He was a happy man who loved his wife and family above everything else and would do anything for them.
He enjoyed getting together each week with his friends for Monday breakfast and Friday lunch.  He is greatly loved and will surely be missed.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and hospice nurses and family members who helped in caring for him tirelessly and the wonderful neighbors and friends who have help to lighten our load.
