William Earl Erickson

November 21, 1929 — July 2, 2022

William “Bill” Erickson was born November 21, 1929 to William John Erickson and Isabella Ingbjorge Anderson in Anaconda, Montana, where he grew up with his late brother Richard.  He graduated from Anaconda High School in 1948, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 18.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1953 and was called to be a chaplain’s assistant until his brother’s passing during the Korean War.

He attended college at the University of Utah, transferred to Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1955, and later a Master’s Degree in Education in 1965.  He married Gladys Rea Bennett on May 19, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They had eight children:  Danna, Nola, Roy, Afton, Richard, Earlene, Justin, and Kristin. He also raised his granddaughter, September. They raised their children in Bountiful, Utah until Rea’s passing in 1993.

Bill was a career educator teaching elementary and high school students in Blanding, Utah, Anaconda, Montana, and Salt Lake County school districts.  He also taught as an adjunct professor at BYU, Weber State University and Utah State University.  He also worked as an aid for special needs students at Weber State during his later years.  Bill’s interests included genealogy, journaling, teaching, being an active LDS member, president of the Sons of Norway, and camping with his family.  His family has blossomed to 48 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He married Barbara Jean Green on January 17, 1995 in the Bountiful Temple.  They were called together to the Frankfurt, Germany mission in 1997, Salt Lake Inner City Mission, and as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple.  Together Bill and Barbara were able to travel to England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Norway, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Hawaii.  They lived in Farmington, Utah.  Bill passed away at the Rocky Mountain Care facility in Layton, Utah on July 2, 2022 at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 8th, 2022  at the Farmington South Stake Center,  695 South 200 East Farmington, Utah. Family and friends are welcome to attend a viewing between 9:45 and 10:45 prior to the service.
