Wilbur Ernest Figgins

August 29, 1928 — May 21, 2021

Wilbur Ernest Figgins, 92 Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Bountiful, Utah passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2021.

Wilbur was born on August 29, in Bozeman, Montana. A farming community in which he thrived. Wilbur learned to work with his hands and could build practicality anything; he was a wonderful story teller. Wilbur shared tales of goat carts, adventures with his dog Ranger and horse Beauty and the pure joy he felt while fishing.

Wilbur joined the Air Force shortly after his High School graduation learning the trade of weather forecasting. This training set the path for a lifelong career as a Meteorologist in the Military for twenty years and in the private sector, retiring from the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Wilbur. He loved an evening watching a western movie and we doubt one has been made that he hasn’t watched multiple times loving every minute of it. Even at 92, Wilbur was competitive; loved playing card games such as Kings on the Corner and seven up. Pretty much any game brought a smile to his face and to all who was lucky enough to participate. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He often shared the bounty from his extensive garden and numerous fruit trees.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years Barbara Taylor Figgins; they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1982. Also preceded in death by loving daughter, Susan (Nick) Velarde, Vancouver, WA. Wilbur is survived by his five sons; Larry (Nancy), Lithia, FL; Gary (D’Ann), Houston, TX; James (Kerry), Philmouth, OR; Russell (Terry), Meridian, ID; and Michael (Valerie), Kaysville, UT; two daughters, Cathryn (Delbert) Browning, Carmichael, CA; and Betty (Eugene) Fruean, Sacramento, CA. Including thirty grandchildren and fifty-nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the LDS Chapel, 800 East 1825 South, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Thursday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment – Bountiful City Cemetery.
