Voyle L. Munson, 84, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away January 22, 2004, at his home. He was born May 19, 1919 to Lewis Leo and Hortense Cope Munson, in Tropic, Utah. He and Lillian Shurtz were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 11, 1939. Voyle?s early years were spent in Topic and Escalante, Utah. After graduating from Brigham Young University, he operated a business and taught high school in Marysville, Utah prior to his service in the United States Navy during World War II. He subsequently operated a business in Loa, Wayne County, Utah where he served as Stake President, was active in community improvement endeavors and represented the county in the State Legislature. He obtained his Masters Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University and returned to Utah to teach school and administer various educational programs. After obtaining his Doctorate Degree in Education from Brigham Young, he worked for the Utah State Board of Education coordinating the State?s Vocational Skill Centers. In retirement, he and Lillian served two missions for the LDS Church, co-authored ?A Gift of Faith – Elias H. Blackburn?, and served in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. Voyle served for many years as a Patriarch in the Orchard Stake. He will be remembered for his loving attention to his wife of 64 years and his family; his kindness and caring to all regardless of age, class, education or economic status; his love of literature and poetry; his infectious smile and contagious sense of humor; his cheerful countenance; his meticulous grammar and devotion to the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his children, Kathryn Ronald, deceased Judd, H. Kent Lorrie Munson, Mary Mark Robinson, Robert L. Alana Munson, Lorraine Richard Haines; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers and sisters, LoRee Doyle Shurtz, Lasca Hal Woolsey, Orpha Kemp Spencer, Lloyd Faye Munson, Howard LaNia Munson and Vanda Elwood Willis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evelyn Kim Lay and a brother, Lorell Nelda Munson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Orchard Stake Center, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Ut. Friends may call Sunday, January 25, 2004 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery. Online guest book and direction map at www.russonmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, persons may donate to the Church Humanitarian Fund.
