Steven Edward Simonson

April 21, 1949 — December 9, 2020

Husband, Father, Papa, Great Papa, brother, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 9th 2020 in West Bountiful, now to be reunited with his sweetheart Carolyn (Nana). Our hearts are broken and he will be missed more than words can say. Steve was born April 21st 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Orval N. Simonson and May Lucille Stout. They later moved to Soda Springs, Idaho and welcomed two sisters, Gean and Rosemarie. The family then moved to Bountiful, Utah where Steve attended both Bountiful and Viewmont High School. Steve’s father passed away when he was 15 and he was forced to grow up fast. As a teenager, he worked at St. Mark’s Hospital. He married his first wife, Roxcie Rodgers, in 1967. They had two children, Wendy and Steven. He was in the Coast Guard from 1967-1971 and later the Air National Guard and completed his GED. He then worked for his aunt from 1971-1976 doing upholstery at D & M Upholstery. In 1983, he married Carolyn Rawlings Palsqraaf, who had four children: Brandy, Johnny, Candace, and Sosha. He became a loving and amazing father to all six children. Steve was employed at Chevron Oil for over 30 years before retiring. In his life, he had a passion for fixing and building anything. He enjoyed yard work and built a literal slice of paradise for Carolyn in the backyard of their home. Growing up on a farm as a boy taught him many skills. He was always the one to call if you needed help with anything. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved blues music such as the Grateful Dead and watching his son’s band, Undeclared Millionaire, perform. He loved Patsy Cline, drawing, working on fast cars, spending time with friends who he considered family, bowling, movies, travelling to Hawaii, doing upholstery, and laughing at dirty jokes. He will truly be missed by many and be remembered as a loving, kind, helpful, sweet, and funny Papa. We will never forget his sweet smile and amazing hugs. When his beautiful wife Carolyn passed away in 2010, his heart was broken and we have comfort in knowing they are together in their heavenly slice of paradise. Steve wanted to thank Dr. Laurene G. Joseph for her compassionate care. He is survived by sisters, Gean Brady (Alan), Rosemarie Escobar (Peter), and Christy Hernandez. His children: Brandy DeMott (Jay), Wendy Rammell Simmons, Johnny Palsgraaf (Catie), Steven Simonson (Jodi), Candace Castleberry, and Sosha Tanner (Travis). His grandchildren: Tomi, Erica, Brittany, Julia, Luka-Maizie, Corinne, Cody, Casey, Rylee, Jonah, Lilia, and Jesse. His great-grandchildren: Addison, Dillon, Kylee, and Jax. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Simonson and his parents Orval N. and May Lucille.
