Stanley Parkin Holbrook

June 13, 1932 — January 9, 2021

God has gained a very special angel today. Our beloved father, brother, grandpa and friend, Stanley Parkin Holbrook, 88, passed away in the early morning hours of January 9, 2021, at his home of 66 years.  Though diminished in his physical stature for the last 14 years of his life, he was nonetheless a tower of spiritual strength to his family.  He endured his trials with amazing strength.

He was born in Bountiful, Utah to Leo Sturton Holbrook and Arlene Parkin Holbrook, on June 13, 1932.  The second oldest of 6 children.  (4 brothers and 2 sisters)

Stanley was in the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 409, from 1944-1951, where he received all sorts of badges including the Eagle Scout Badge.

He attended Stoker Elementary, South Davis Jr. High and finished his schooling at Davis High Scholl in Kaysville.

He met the love of his life, his long-time high school sweetheart, Darlene Barba Thomson, from Salt Lake City, and was married on September 11, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on February 1, 1955.

They built their home in Bountiful upon the east bench overlooking the valley, the same home where he passed away.  Both Stanley and Darlene loved gardening and growing championship flowers that they exhibited in dozens of flower shows over the years.  They were featured in the newspaper many times.  They acquired over 500 ribbons and 75 trophies.

Stanley served in the Army during the Korean war, from March 1952 until February 1954 as military police.  He was honorably discharged from the army due to family needing him at home.  After his military service, he worked in the family business, Holbrook Plumbing and Heating Company, for thirty-four years.  He liquidated the business in 1988 to retire at the early age of 56.  Both he and his wife enjoyed retirement until his love passed away in February of 2011. He spent the last years missing her dearly.

He was a perfect example to his family of unselfish love, integrity, kindness, honesty, charity and valiantly enduring to the end.  His love of life was reflected in his smile.  All that met him loved him.  The last years on this earth, he was just happy to be with his family.  He enjoyed the visits of others who were dear to him.  He will be greatly missed!  We will always have a hole in our hearts from being separated from this great man, but look forward to the great reunion in heaven.  We love you Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Great-Great Grandpa and Brother.

He is survived by his large and loving family: four children: Debra Chernik, Rick Holbrook, Scott Holbrook, Angela Holbrook Bilagody, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren: Brother, Larry P. Holbrook, Sisters, Joyce Thomas and Janette Sedgwick.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Darlene, and his brothers Robert P. Holbrook and Clarence Holbrook.

A private family viewing due to COVID-19 restrictions, will be held on Friday January 15th from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main in Bountiful.  Graveside services will be held January 15th at the Bountiful City Cemetery at 2 p.m., for anyone who wishes to pay their respects.

Services will be live streamed on Facebook @ Russon Mortuary & Crematory.
