Sharral Louise Stott Parkin

May 5, 1931 — January 25, 2022

Sharral Louise Stott Parkin passed away peacefully on January 25, 2022 at the age of 90 of natural causes. Born in Salina, Utah on May 05, 1931 to Karl Stott and Venice Bushnell Stott. Sharrall lived a life devoted to her family, her faith, and her community.

Sharral graduated from Milford High School, and later went on to attend school at Brigham Young University, and University of Utah. During that time she was working at J.C. Penneys Western Accounting, and here met the love of her life Bruce W. Parkin. She often is quoted saying “She got her husband at J.C. Penneys”. They were married by Spencer W. Kimball in the Salt Lake Temple on September 10, 1954. Their union was blessed with six children. Bruce and Sharral were true partners in life as they raised their children in Bountiful, and participated in public life, and traveled the world together. They were married for 67 years.

Beginning at age 15, Sharral was called to be the ward organist. During her lifetime, she served in this calling for 70 years straight. She thoroughly enjoyed music, especially piano where she played elegantly.

Sharral was the wind beneath Bruce’s wings that carried him to successfully work as Bountiful’s City Recorder, and also at the Utah State Retirement Office for 28 years total. Shortly after, she and Bruce enjoyed an 18 month mission to the California San Diego Mission. Later, served as ordinance workers for 3 years at the Bountiful Temple. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Though community, church, and service brought Sharral immense satisfaction, her greatest joy came through serving her family. Sharral loved spending time with her grandchildren. She often would bake her famous Buttermilk Chocolate Sheet Cake, and enjoy all the family around her. She will be remembered playing the piano, quilting, as an exquisite seamstress, and an excellent cook.

Sharral will undoubtedly be remembered for her remarkable service to the community, but more importantly will be remembered for her generous expressions of love to her neighbors, friends, and family and for how she always sought out the less noticed, making them her dearest friends.

Sharral is survived by her husband Bruce W. Parkin, and her 6 children: Suzanne Olsen; Jean Rees; Cindy Edelman; Reed Parkin (Tina); Mary Johnson (John); Ted Parkin (Jana); 21 Grandchildren, and 26 Great-Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Karl Stott and Venice Bushnell, her brother Karl J. Stott, and son-in laws, Stephen Olsen, and Alan Rees.
