Selma Burnice Leonard Mitchell, age 94, returned to her Heavenly Father on October 29, 2008. Born March 2, 1914 in Huntington, Utah to David Heber Leonard and Hannah Matilda Johnson Leonard. Selma graduated from North Emery High School. She married George Thomas Mitchell on May 9, 1940. Together they had four children. George passed away on December 29, 1983.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and after George’s passing went through the temple for her own endowments.

Mom’s gift from God was her musical talent. She felt music was her purpose in this life. She played the piano, organ and was chorister for primary and Sunday School in her beloved Riverside Ward. She sang in many quartets, choirs, and was a member of the Sweet Adelines for many years.

A woman of extraordinary beauty, robust humor, great cook and entertainer, she enriched the lives of family, friends, and all she came in contact with. Preceded in death by her husband, two children, Royal and Cindy, six sisters and five brothers. Survived by son Tom, Rae, daughter Cicely &qoute;Sis&qoute; Merill Fijacko, two grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary, 255 South 200 East. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and also prior to the funeral from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.. Interment Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. Online guestbook available at www.russonmortuary.com
