Sanford Smith Walker

July 8, 1927 — May 29, 2021

It is with profound gratitude for his life and love that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, and husband Sanford Smith Walker (Sandy) on May 29, 2021.  Sandy was born on July 8, 1927, in American Fork, Utah to Joseph and Helen Walker, the youngest of six boys. His childhood and youth were spent in Utah and Colorado, a cheery boy who did not allow the effects of  The Great Depression to dent his enthusiastic spirit. Sandy was a cheerful optimist, who garnered many friends throughout his life and provided a supreme example for his family.

Sandy served in the military during WWII.  He also served as a young missionary in Brazil when the entire country was one mission. Upon his return, he graduated from BYU and married Elma Lois Butters in the Logan Utah temple. Together they enjoyed 70 years and were dedicated parents of seven children.

Sandy was a successful businessman, excelling in sales and marketing, an ardent patriot, and loved BYU football. He joyously served in numerous church callings, including fulltime service as a mission president later in life among his beloved Brazilian people.

Sandy was a talented musician, playing drums in his early years and readily sharing his beautiful singing voice with others throughout his life. He and his cherished wife were well-traveled, and he eagerly made friends wherever he went. The biggest lesson that Sandy taught us by the sermon of his life is the preeminence of the gospel of Jesus Christ and how it illuminates and gives meaning to life now and later.

Sandy is survived by his wife, Elma, his children Kristine (Patrick) Graff, Andy (Orlando), Susan (Alan) Bird, Gayla Rounds, Nancy (Steve) White, Dave Walker, Dan (Maria) Walker, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law and granddaughter.
