Ruby Leavitt Wilstead

October 6, 1944 — March 27, 2020

Ruby Leavitt Wilstead, our sweet loving mother, grandmother and friend, age 75, passed away peacefully at Huntsman Cancer Center on Friday, March 27, 2020.  Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in December 2018 and fought a courageous battle until the end.  Mom was born October 6, 1944 in St. George, Utah to Dudley Rueben Leavitt and Vilate Sprague.  Ruby had four older sisters and one younger brother.
Her greatest success was being a mother of her 5 children and a grandmother of 12. Mom loved to read, do puzzles and watch BBC movies.  She enjoyed gardening and supporting her family in all of their activities.  She especially enjoyed bragging about her kids.  Mom will be remembered for her uplifting, beautiful smile that was always on her face.  She was a kind, loving and selfless individual.  She could strike up conversation with anyone and make you feel like she knew you forever.
Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings and loved temple work, with her most recent calling being at the Bountiful Temple.  Mom loved the Lord, read her scriptures faithfully and had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Mom was very proud of her family heritage, who she was and where she came from.  She frequently shared stories with us of her ancestors and their experiences.  Mom has always worked with family history and recently she was attempting to learn online family history.
Mom is survived by her children Rebecca Lynne (Randy) Curtis of Bountiful, Utah, Russell Lee (Lisa) Wilstead of  Gold Beach, Oregon, Kris (Shaun) Bell of Orangeville, Utah, Tiffany Nicole (Allen) Bears of Bountiful, Utah, and Kathryn Mariah Wilstead of Castle Dale, Utah; twelve grandchildren Gage, Ashton, Samrah, Blake, Zach, Dannilee, Sarah, Cadence, Nelson, Audrey, Rockwell and Ruby; and one brother Dudley (Lynda) Leavitt of Carson City, Nevada.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Zella, Eleanor, Ella and Anna.  Mom will be missed by all.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a immediate family only graveside service will be held at the Bountiful, Utah Cemetery instead of a funeral service on Friday, April 3, 2020.  Please leave your thoughts or memories at her online guestbook at www.russonmorturary.com .
The family offers our thanks to her wonderful and compassionate caregivers at Huntsman Cancer Center and the University of Utah Medical Center.  Special thanks to Dr. Wallace Akerley, Nurse Kelly Moynahan and the rest of Mom's care team.
