Roy Pearce McNeil

June 1, 1939 — December 7, 2021

On Tuesday December 7, 2021, Roy Pearce McNeil was reunited with family and friends in Heaven. Roy was born on June 1, 1939, at the family home in Bountiful Utah to Ulrus (Mac) Hewitt McNeil and Edith Evelyn Pearce. He remained in Bountiful the majority of his life.

Roy’s formative years were spent adventuring in the foothills above his home, where he became proficient in hunting and camping. He was a talented athlete lettering in both football and track. Roy was passionate about his 1957 Chevy which he raced on the streets of Bountiful until he received 4 citations in one evening. He was also a long-time member of the Bountiful Jeep Posse and through their youth programs taught a generation of young men and women Hunters Safety.

Roy’s natural curiosity and ambition inspired his creation of many small businesses. From his beginnings as a cemetery landscaper to a lumber supply delivery boy, Roy developed a passion for entrepreneurship.  In 1970, Roy discovered his life’s work, when he started placing concrete patios and driveways out of the trunk of the family car. As McNeil Construction grew, Roy expanded into mining, logistics, and ready-mix delivery which he called Metro West. Prior to selling Metro West in the early 90’s, they provided concrete for The Church of Jesus Christ Conference Center, City Creek Plaza and the Salt Lake City airport.

In the 5th grade at Stoker Elementary, Roy met the love of his life. However, at the time she “ran too slow” to be a girl that he was interested in. Eventually that slow 5th grade girl became a spirited (and fast running) cheerleader and Roy took notice. Roy and Marsha Beesley began dating early in their sophomore year. In 1957 they were part of Bountiful High School’s first graduating class. Roy attended the University of Utah and Marsha Utah State University.  When the long-distance dating became too burdensome, they were married on April 14, 1961. They had 4 children Greg (Kristin), Matt (Chelena), Sharlee Baskin (Wade), Mardee Eames (George), 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  His Greatest Joy was his family. We will all be grateful for the lessons he taught us, water skiing, sailing, golf, truck driving, gardening, hard work, and a love of God. He loved making Sunday dinner, time spent at Bear Lake, and Thanksgiving trips to Hawaii.

In 1978 He took his family to the Salt Lake Temple to be sealed.  He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and supported many missionaries.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Joyce Green, Delores Moss, and Edith Carlson. He is survived by Marsha, his brother Frank McNeil and a beloved nephew Brad Green.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Taylor Monument Ward Chapel, 1035 South Angel Street, Kaysville, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Saturday morning from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment- Bountiful City Cemetery.
