Robert Dale Linnell, Jr.

August 31, 1932 — September 24, 2021

After a long battle with cancer, Bob Linnell passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2021, at the age of 89. Although we will miss him greatly, we rejoice in the fact that he is once again the “energizer bunny”, free to keep things hopping.

Robert Dale Linnell, Jr.  was born August 31, 1932, in Salt Lake City, UT to Robert Dale Linnell and Ruby Florence Meyers. They moved to Southern California when he was about 7 years of age, where Bob spent his early school years.  Bob served in the Navy from 1952 – 1956 during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan for the majority of the time.  Following his Navy service, he moved back to Long Beach, California where he met and married the love of his life and eternal companion, Lois Athay Linnell on July 18, 1958 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They started their family in California before moving to Bountiful, Utah.

Bob is survived by his wife Lois, Children: Lori (Tarryle) Bagley, Randy (Nancy) Linnell, Brad Linnell, Mike (Romy) Linnell, Roger (deceased) (Stacey) Linnell; his Brother: Brent (Fran) Linnell; 21 grandchildren, 7.5 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, sister Joyce and his son Roger.

Bob began working at Bailey’s Moving and Storage in 1963 and purchased it with some partners in 1970. He sold his share in Bailey’s in 1983, and served as President of the California Fresno Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1984 to 1987 with his wife Lois. Bob’s deep love of the gospel led to his and Lois’ serving several humanitarian missions in Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and other areas in Africa over the next few years. He served as Scoutmaster, Bishop, High Councilor, Gospel Doctrine teacher and other positions in the Church. He loved serving others, especially those less likely to have someone looking out for them.

Bob also gave civic service as Bountiful City Councilman 1980-84, Bountiful Mayor from 1990-94 and Deputy Governor of Government Relations for Governor Mike Leavitt from 1994-98. He made many lifelong friends through his church and civic service.

A viewing will be held Tuesday night September 28th from 6 – 8 pm at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful. Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Church on 1476 N 300 W – Bountiful, UT on Wednesday, September 29th at 11am with a viewing beforehand from 10am-10:45am. Following the service, he will be interred at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

Special thanks for all the love and support from friends, family, Sid, and Rocky Mountain Healthcare workers, for their tender care in his final months.
