Richard Souter Lindsey

February 22, 1956 — May 30, 2021

Richard (Rick) Souter Lindsey was born on Feb 22, 1956 to Willard Harry Lindsey and Marjorie Arlene Souter Lindsey in Mount Pleasant, Utah.  He died on May 30, 2021 at home in his sleep at the age of 65.  He was the youngest of 7 children, and the first of them to pass.

He graduated from Bingham High School in 1974.  He studied Agricultural Sciences at Utah State University graduating in 1976.

He married Marlene Kaye Butler on April 19, 1986 in the Salt Lake Temple.  (Blind dates really do work.)  They spent 35 years together.  They built a home on his parent’s property behind their home in South Jordan.  They then moved to Clearfield Utah, where they raised their family.

One of his first jobs was working for Hygeia Iceland in Sugarhouse.  He worked a short time for RE Peterson Construction Co.  He also was a herdsman for Beckstead Dairy Farm in Preston, Idaho.  His main job over the years was working for Associated Foods for the past 32 years.  He also worked a second job at Lagoon.

He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He served as a Webelos leader and Scout Master.  All the scouts he instructed received their Eagle Scout Award.

He liked camping, 4-wheeling, boating, roping, hunting and anything else that brought his family and friends together. He was a loving and caring father who always vigorously and passionately supported his kids and grandkids in any activity they participated in. Rick was a shy quiet guy in public, but he was a hoot around his family. He loved hot dogs and would challenge his siblings to hot dog eating contests.  The day that Pat & Jay were married Willard yelled at Rick to get off the house.  He said he would right after throwing rice at them when they left.  The day after he bought his boat, he called Pat & Jay & arranged to go clear up to Montana and go boating with them for about a week.  They remember a funny story about Rick being so happy after finally getting a Shetland pony as a boy, he called Jay and told him he finally got a “Shitland” pony.  Lynn Forsberg, his brother-in-law, and supervisor at the time, remembers when he had just fixed a broken cord on a circular saw and warned his crew to be careful with it.  It wasn’t long after that when Rick brought the saw and told Lynn that he just cut the repaired cord.

He was preceded in death by both his parents.  He is survived by his wife Marlene Butler Lindsey, their children Tonya (Colton) Rees and Bryce Lindsey (Bethany Singleton, his fiancé), and his 3 grandchildren from Tonya:  Kade, Kasen, and Kayley.  He is also survived by his 6 siblings Shirley (Kent) Crawford, West Valley City, UT; William (Beate) Lindsey, West Jordan, UT; Patricia (Jay) Hansen, Manhattan, MT; Debra (Brent) Phillips, Torrey, UT; Kathleen (Lamar) Mitchell, Torrey, UT; Penny (Lynn) Forsberg, Lamoille, NV; and all their children, nieces and nephews.

The first viewing will be held Friday, June 11, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1585 W. 300 S. Syracuse, UT 84075.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11:00 am at the LDS Church building at 1245 S. 1175 E. in Clearfield, Utah.  A viewing will be held at 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the services.

Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy Utah following the services.
