Ray L. Fahring died November 17, 2040 of complications following surgery. He was born April 27, 1914 to Dr. Clyde Raymond and Selma Albertina Lasson Fahring in Sunnyside, Utah. He was raised in Helper, Utah, where he was such an avid reader that by the time he was six he had read every children?s book in the Price, Utah library. He graduated from Carbon High School in Price, Utah and earned his B.A. in English from Brigham Young University. He later attended the University of Utah. He served in the U.S. Army as a Supply Sargeant during World War II, in Okinawa and later as part of the Army of Occupation in Korea. Ray married Fern Wilkins on September 8, 1950. Ray worked for Wycoff Corporation in Butte, Montana and Salt Lake City, Utah as purchasing agent until he retired in 1984. He loved fishing, reading, and hearing about the accomplishments of his family, especially the children. Preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his sister, Bette Fahring Vance, Salt Lake City; step-son, Niels ?Chris? Christensen Lalia, Orange, CA; daughter, Susan Driskill, Chris, Alvin, TX; daughter, Emily Draper, Stan, Salt Lake City; daughter, Lise Peterson, Salt Lake City; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 4 nephews; 8 grand-nieces; 3 grand-nephews; 5 great-grand nieces; and 2 great-grand-nephews. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the Salt Lake V.A. and Lakeview Hospital for their care of Ray. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association of the American Cancer Society.
