Patricia “Patsy” Joanne Stewart Herrin

January 19, 1941 — January 1, 2021

North Salt Lake, Utah—Patricia (“Patsy”) Joanne Stewart Herrin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend peacefully returned home to Heavenly Parents and her eternal sweetheart, Lamar, on Jan. 1, 2021, due to a brain aneurysm. She spent a final week able to converse with family and friends until her last day when she passed through the veil at home surrounded by her family. We are so grateful for the nursing skills and tender loving care given by her dear granddaughter, Bria, who cared for her needs in her final two days.

The second of three children, Patsy was born on January 19, 1941 in Oakland, California to William Alva Stewart and Eleanor Emma Hahl. She met her sweetheart, Lamar Herrin, at BYU, and on Sept. 11, 1959, they married in the Los Angeles Temple. They now have seven children, 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Patsy truly loved each family member unconditionally.

Patsy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a proud patriot. She was a voracious reader and a wonderful cook i.e., legendary crescent rolls, sugar cookies and chocolate pies. She was always sewing something for others, including treasured baby quilts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2020, she also sewed hundreds of masks for healthcare workers, family and friends.

Patsy showed her love by constantly serving others. On every family member’s birthday, she always gave a card containing a special note. She also attended nearly all the many important events of family members. Patsy always put family members, friends, and neighbors ahead of her own needs and epitomized Christ-like service, which brought her great joy. She selflessly cared for Lamar during his 12 years suffering with Parkinson’s disease, and her formerly conjoined granddaughters for 18 years through their countless medical procedures, suffering and challenges.

Patsy loved doing family history for her and Lamar’s ancestors, as well as indexing over 1.2 million records (top 1% in the world). The only regret Patsy expressed was she had never written her life story. Her children are determined to write that for her and would like to ask those who knew and loved her to share with us the experiences you had with her, stories about her life and any other information that could help us write her life story for her posterity so they can come to know more about Grandma Patsy’s life and the legacy she and Grandpa Lamar have left for them. You can send us those memories or write them in the online message book at https://www.russonmortuary.com/obituaries/

Patsy is survived by her sister, Marilyn (Jim) Olsen, her seven children: Anette (Jorge) Dennis, Jim (Hiroko) Herrin, Bruce (Cris) Herrin, Lori (Todd) Horrocks, Marley (Ron) Orton, Amy (Aldo) Inette, and Jake (Erin) Herrin, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her older brother, Ronny Stewart.

A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary on Friday, Jan. 8th, from 6-8 pm. Masks are required and all will be asked to social distance. Due to pandemic limitations, the funeral will be a private family service, but will be streamed live on Zoom for those who wish to watch online, Saturday, Jan. 9th at 11:00 am: Meeting ID: 823 7064 5532. Passcode: 01092021.

We express appreciation to all who loved and served Patsy and Lamar. God be with you ‘til we meet again, dear Grandma Patsy!! We all love you so much!!!
