Patricia Ann Fillmore Knapp

June 1, 2015 — January 24, 1947

Our beloved Patricia Ann Fillmore Knapp passed away at the age of 68 of abdominal complications while surrounded by her loving family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Patty was born to Beverly Flint and Earl Bennett Fillmore on January 24, 1947 in Salt Lake City. While growing up with her two sisters and brother she loved riding horses and spending time with her grandparents.
Patty and Ralph William Knapp were married on September 12, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. They graduated together from the University of Utah in 1970. They were married for nearly 47 years, raising nine children and doting on their thirty-two grandchildren.
She was very creative, and her children and grandchildren have lasting mementos of the time and love she put into the quilts, blankets, scrapbooks, and other crafts that she was always working on. Patty also loved to spend time at Disneyland with her children and grandchildren. The vast amount of photographs and scrapbooks that she created are treasured reminders of the joy that she took in introducing her family to the magic of the world around them.
A longtime teacher of youth in Sunday School and Young Women, Patty spent her life serving in the church and was passionate about guiding the youth to be better and stronger people. She also loved working as a Church Service Missionary at the Missionary Training Center in Provo for the last ten years, and was a lifelong advocate of missionaries and the integral role they play in God’s plan.
Patty loved family history, and always said that the day of her death would be the greatest day of her life, as her ancestors will know her and she will know them. She never doubted the truthfulness of the Gospel, and her perfect faith is one of her greatest gifts.
She loved music, and nothing brought her more joy than seeing her children and grandchildren perform. She gave them every opportunity to develop their talents, and made it a priority to attend every event and milestone in their lives.
Patty’s love for family went beyond her children, and her house was consistently filled with at least a face or two more that would happily end up at the dinner table. Patty had a positive disposition and radiated love to everyone, and her optimism and resilience in the face of adversity and pain are traits that her family will continue to admire and learn from.
She is survived by husband Ralph William Knapp, her children Nancy Brown (Ronald), Randall Ralph Knapp (Holly), Sally Warnock (Paul), Amy Williams (Michael), Julie Meyer (Christian), Gary Robert Knapp (Andie), Jeffrey William Knapp (Andrea), Lori Johnson (Marc), Lindsey Reynolds, her thirty-two grandchildren, and her siblings Bonnie Lee Talbot, Robert Flint Fillmore, and Susan Beaudoin.
A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday from 11:00 am-12:30 pm at the North Salt Lake Stake Center, 900 Eaglepointe Drive, North Salt Lake. Funeral services will be on Friday at 1:00 pm at the same location.
To honor Patty, she would be delighted if donations were made to the LDS Church missionary fund.
