Neal Alexander Iund

February 21, 1948 — July 29, 2022

Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend, Neal Alexander Iund passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2022, at the young age of 74.  Neal fought a long and courageous battle with systemic sclerosis for over 10 years, finally succumbing to liver failure, among a host of other complications.

Neal Alexander Iund was born February 21, 1948, in Banning, California to Donald Edwin and Clarine Jean Seymour Iund.  His middle name comes from the compassionate doctor that delivered him at home.

As a child, Neal loved adventure, nature, and had a curiosity for every living thing. This child like curiosity would grow within him, propelling him to achieve his full potential. He graduated from Banning High School in 1966, then chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland from 1967-1969.  After returning home, Neal attended Brigham Young University.  During summer break, Neal met the love of his life (the beautiful reigning Miss Lehi), Gail Annette Skinner. They dated just three weeks before he proposed to her. They were engaged just four short months before being sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 22, 1971.

Neal’s first job as a husband, was as a welder. He and Gail managed the four-plex in American Fork, Utah where they lived until 1975.  They built their first home in Centerville, Utah, where they would raise their family, and live the next 48 years, establishing a business that would become his lifelong legacy; providing and serving others for years to come. Neal’s life changed forever when he joined the American Importer for Bernina Sewing International in 1972 where he worked as Chief Mechanic until 1987. Neal launched his home business that same year, which grew to serve over 1,000 beloved customers and School Districts over the next 35 years. His love for the Bernina’s product would become his legacy for life building and engineering quilting machines, in addition to contract work developing intellectual property.

While driving that business, Neal was inspired with a multitude of ideas that would create and provide new opportunities. Neal holds a patent with four other men for an apparatus and method for ventilation and aspiration of tracheal suctioning. Neal mechanically engineered the Legacy Long arm quilting machine, which sold to sailboat makers, professional quilters worldwide, and school districts throughout the intermountain west. He was Chief Engineer for Handi-Quilter where he utilized his life’s work to design an affordable long arm quilting machine that would put Handi-Quilter on the map.  These are only a few of his many engineering accomplishments. Neal was one of the mighty intelligences, but he gave all credit to the Lord for inspiration received.

Neal’s testimony was knowing he never walked alone, and that his Savior was always by his side. His testimony was powerfully borne to all his friends and family in his final days. He died knowing his mission was completed and crowned with Glory, immortality, and eternal life.

His wife Gail and their children are his most precious possession. He was thrilled to welcome two daughters-in-law to the family, Melinda, and Patricia, along with nine precious grandchildren: Justin and wife Emily, Colin, Deseree, Lauren, Nea, Brooklyn, Roman, Dylan, and Porter. His love of God, Family, and Country will forever be remembered.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law.  Neal is survived by the love of his life, Gail Skinner Iund, and his beloved children Trevor Iund (Melinda), Amber Iund, Tyler Iund (Patricia), April Iund, Todd Iund, and Abby Iund, and beloved family pets, Nina, Wendell, Merlin, Koda, and Theo. Also surviving are his siblings Don Iund, Pam Judnitsch (Randy), Tim Iund (Colleen), and Chris Iund (Tish).

“As you lose yourself in service of worth to others, something wonderful will happen to you.  Your life may stand as a monument to greatness, anchored to the pedestal of trust, crowned with the flower of achievement, and glistening with the brightness of your own joy.” –President Russell M. Nelson

May his memory be eternal!
