Myrna Faye Taylor Richens

January 9, 1936 — November 5, 2021

“Somewhere, my love there will be songs to sing”

Our Angel wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother returned home on November 5, 2021.  Myrna was born on January 9,1936 to Rudolph Teancum Taylor and Pearlis Caroline Nelson.  Her childhood began in a small log cabin on a ranch above LaPoint, Utah.  When Myrna was five years old, her family moved to “the big house” where they had “real windows” and indoor plumbing.  As a young girl she rode the bus to school and when the snow was too deep for the bus to bring her home, Myrna’s father rode into town on his horse to fetch her.  Eventually Myrna, her parents and her siblings Lyle, Iris and Irene moved from the ranch to a farm in LaPoint.  Myrna loved playing baseball, raising calves, and walking up the street to her “German Grandmas” house.  It was her grandma who taught Myrna to love cooking, a trait she would pass to three future generations.  Myrna could create more dishes using venison than even Martha Stuart could concoct.  Anyone fortunate enough to receive a box of her hand dipped chocolates was transformed from the first bite.

Myrna always wanted to marry a football player and when she met the handsome quarterback of her High School Football team, “He had her at Hello.” Duane and Myrna loved each other deeply.  Their relationship was powerful and romantic for every minute of their 67 years together.  “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” Myrna and Duane were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple at 18.  In the early years of their marriage they were joined by daughters, Susan and Gwen. A son, Ken came a few years later.  Myrna quickly learned she was wed to an adventurer and often went far outside her comfort zone to be at his side.  This included learning to ski on both water and snow, camping, fishing, hunting, and golfing.  Duane always said they had a great life which was true but even their love story was sprinkled with episodes of sorrow.  We are sure Myrna sprinted through the veil to embrace Andy and Lance, two grandsons who passed on before her.

Myrna was a whiz with finance.  She stretched a small income to provide a lovely life for her family.  When her youngest child began school, Myrna began working in the basement of First Security Bank as a bookkeeper.  She quickly advanced to become a teller and then on to almost every position at the bank.  She finished her career as Vice President of the Home Mortgage Division.

Hiding beneath Myrna’s natural calm demeanor was a fierce competitive streak.  She loved to play Rook and if you sat down at the table with her you were unlikely to come away the victor.  She rarely misplayed a card.  Myrna loved having her hair fixed, her nails done and driving her blue Cadillac.  She inherited and passed on “the Taylor gene” which means ice cream is always a good idea.  She loved dolls, Christmas, all things blue and anything related to family.

Next to Duane, Myrna’s family was her highest priority.  Her love of family extended naturally to include friends of grandchildren, neighbors, and many new acquaintances.  Myrna was the embodiment of Proverbs 31: 28, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”

Myrna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She cherished her association with members of the Foxhill Ward.  She enjoyed serving in many callings.  Her favorites were Primary President and working in the Bountiful Temple.  Myrna loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She taught it to her family, rarely using words.

Myrna excelled at every mortal assignment she received.  It was her time to move on.  No need to worry grandma/mom, many of your posterity carry the Taylor genetic code.  We will continue to dip straight from the gallon of ice cream ߙ‚

Myrna has now rejoined her two grandsons, her parents, her sister Iris as well as many others whose lives she touched.  She is temporarily departed from her beloved husband, Duane, daughters Susan Peterson (Kevin), Gwen Cannon (Wayne), and son Ken Richens (Julie);  grandsons Jeremy Holmes, Erik Nilsson (Jasmine), Scott Richens (Jennifer), Travis Richens, Dillon Richens (Lauren) and Clark Cannon (Megan);  granddaughters Emily Perkins (Ernest), Britta Anne Bruderer (Scott), Kiersten Swindle, Alison Stark, Libby Dibb (Russell) and Becky Decker (Matt);  adoring great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Cooper, Elise, Ben, Cole, Will, Scott, Kate, Quincy, Jocelyn, Bronson, Skylar, Roman, August, Ellis, Tanner, Chase, Andrew, Isabel, James, Charlotte, Wayne, Miranda, Elizabeth, Catherine, Micah, and Blake; sister Irene Collins and brother Lyle Taylor.
