Mona Lynn Cavin

July 1, 1939 — March 21, 2021

Mona Lynn Cavin, loving mother, sister, aunt and daughter passed away peacefully in her home on March 21, 2021 at the age of 81. Mona Lynn was born to Lillian Evelyn Anderson Schoeler and Jacob Frank Schoeler on July 1, 1939 in Dodsland, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised with her brother and four sisters on her family’s Sasakatchewan farm until her father’s death. Her family then returned to Fargo, North Dakota, USA and finally she, her mother and two sisters moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mona Lynn, after changing her name to Renee as a teen, married Alan Laythorpe (Cornwall, England) in 1957 and had two children, Mark Laythorpe and Lisa Laythorpe. Later, going by the name of Lynn, she married Dean Cavin (Idaho) and had two children, Christopher Cavin and Cody Cavin.
After their separation she started her own business and settled down in Centerville and Bountiful, Utah where she raised her youngest sons and had many adventures large and small with an enduring group of close friends. For 28 years she ran her dog grooming business in Bountiful called The Clip Joint and later, The Foxy Dog. Her children have many fond memories of her, from helping her at “The Shop” on Saturdays, (where she had “call-forwarding,” way back when), to her furnishing our home in Centerville with that comfy sectional couch, to remembering how we felt so safe and could come to her with any problem under the sun. We all have people in life that are very dear to us. A mother is someone exceptionally dear and special. In our family our mother was the one person we could count on completely and unconditionally. We all will miss our beautiful mother terribly.
She is survived by her four children, Mark, Lisa, Christopher and Cody; two grandchildren, Brock and Maddison; three of her beloved sisters, Donna May, Betty Lou and Dora Lea; Son in Law, Scott Yates, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is planned this summer, time and place to be decided.
