Miriam Cheney Johnson

August 11, 1924 — April 11, 2021

Miriam Cheney Johnson (96) daughter of Clarence Marcellus and Alice Leal Cheney. Wife of Albert Sidney Johnson. Miriam was born in Sunnydell, Idaho and grew up with her 9 siblings working on their family farm. She attended Madison High School and enjoyed many things including drama. While attending Ricks College in Rexburg, ID she met her eternal companion, Albert Johnson, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1944. Together they raised six wonderful children and taught them to love the Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel. Miriam served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including Relief Society President three times! She also loved serving three full time missions with her husband Albert to Nauvoo, IL, Dallas, TX and New York City, NY. Miriam’s words to her children on our last Christmas zoom call were of her love of the Savior and her testimony of the gospel. She told us all to be as good as we could be.
Miriam was able to fulfill her wish of living out her life in her own Centerville home where she lived since 1974. She loved visits and brought joy and a bright smile to all who spent time with her. A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers Paula Johnson and Lorena Swanson and to SDCH Hospice. They have made her last years very comfortable.
Miriam is survived by her six children and their spouses, Arlyn (Virgie), Val (Diana), Gary (Julie), Beverly (Jeff), Duane (Vickie), and Bruce (Julia) as well as 29 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and two sisters; Vera Duffin (Gene) and Rheta Griffeth, and brother- in- law Norman Johnson. She is now reunited with her eternal companion, Albert, her parents, siblings, and a host of family and friends who welcome her with open arms.
