Mark H. Hafey

Mark H Hafey Jr was born on Oct 31, 1927 and passed away on January 5, 2022. Mark was born in Salt Lake City, to Mark H Hafey Sr and Katheryn King Hafey. He was the oldest of 5 children. He was a proud member of the West High ROTC and after High School he joined the Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Topeka at end of WW!!, he joined the Navy reserves and was called back to serve in the Korean war. He served on the USS LST 742 and 762.
Mark graduated from West High in1945 and the University of Utah with his BS in 158 and then a MS in 1974.
He married Lucile Warner in March 1959 and was blessed with four children, they were later divorced. He married Mildred (Mickey) Jorgensen December 1998. He referred to her as the love of his life. He always said that she made the last 23 years of his life the best. They danced, traveled and socialized with friends and family. When he married Mickey he gained a big family in South Carolina.
Mark worked for Salt Lake City Planning and Zoning as the Deputy Planning Director, he served as the Director of the Board of Adjustment, and on the Land Use Appeals Board as well as Community Development Corp. Board.
Mark loved to play golf, he was proud of caddying for the winner of the Utah Open in 1944 at Fort Douglas Golf Course. He was given a lifetime golf pass for all city golf courses when he retired from the City.
Mark was a stained glass artist, he made many pieces, He made one for Olympus Jr High and Olympus High School. He made a piece to put in the stained glass blanket at Primary Children’s Hospital.
Mark was preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Diane Strickland and 2 brother-in-laws, Al Hemingway and Jack Strickland, his daughter Linda, grandson Kory and his wife Mickey. He is survived by his brother Bob, his sisters, Marlene and Carol. His daughter Michelle (Kris) Moyes, son Kevin (Rae) Hafey, Daphne (John) Morris. 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., January 11th, 2022 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Boutniful. Interment- Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Dr., Bountiful.
