Marjorie Reid Nelson Hadley

Our beautiful mother, Marjorie Reid Nelson Hadley, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2021, in her home surrounded by her loving husband and her children. Born September 19, 1939, to Jack Emil Nelson and Rachel Hazen Reid, Margie entered this world carrying a powerful spirit and sweet disposition.

Margie spent her childhood years in Rose Park. As the oldest of three sisters and one brother, she often enjoyed doting on them with extra love and tenderness. This familial love was shared for all her extended family members including her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins who also lived in the surrounding area.

Margie attended West High School, graduating in 1957. Her love of learning and desire to gain an education set her apart from other members of her class. She continued her education, working hard to fund it, earning her degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah in 1962.

During her Jr. High years, Margie attended a momentous Halloween party where she met “my man,” John Hadley. It was love at first sight for both, and the two quickly developed a deep adoration for one another throughout their 8-year courtship as John completed his missionary service for their church and military service to our country. Finally, their love story was sealed for time and all eternity on August 3, 1962, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Their love story spanned 68 years.

From a young age, Margie exemplified a heart full of love for all those around her. She could often be found stating the simple phrase “I just love,” and her words were always followed by devout action.  That love was expressed by her to all of her posterity up to the time of her passing. Margie constantly shared her deep compassion for others and was known to uplift the spirits with those around her, especially those who she felt needed it. As a result, that love equated to her serving others all of her life. She was affectionately known as a second mom for many of the neighborhood children. She devoted many hours actively serving in church assignments blessing the young and elderly.  She freely volunteered at Primary Children’s Hospital because “I just love” helping the little ones there.

Her charitable nature extended to her and Dad’s wonderful missionary service.  When her fingerprints weren’t legible to accept a call to serve in Australia, John and Margie served extended missions in St. George, UT and the Conference Center in Salt Lake City where they made many friends.

Margie loved to travel and wherever she visited, she freely shared her testimony and made lifelong friends who she always kept in touch with over the years. Friends from foreign countries were always welcome in her home.

In the last years of her life, Marge decided that she wanted to change her name and be known by her nickname, Margie. She affectionately became ‘Grandma Margie’ to her loving children and extended family. Known for her expert crochet abilities, Grandma Margie presented each grandchild with a handmade, crocheted afghan before she passed. She also bore a sweet, powerful testimony of life after death, and the importance of families; and then announced “It is time for me to go be with my Savior.”  Her testimony of the plan of happiness was sure.

John and Margie had a favorite song, entitled “Little Things Mean a Lot.” Margie’s life was the epitome of this song. She was always doing the little things that lifted others and blessed their lives. Although we will miss her dearly, we know she is in a lovely place, preparing for another dance with Dad.  She would be very happy if that dance could somehow have Dad wearing his  “white sport coat and a pink carnation” from long ago.

Margie is survived by her beloved husband, John Leonard Hadley, and their loving children Rock (Elizabeth) Hadley, Ronda (Dave) Vincent, Trisha (Steve) Peel, Jeana (Brian) Bangerter, Ruston (Cindy) Hadley, Ryan (Kellie) Hadley, her sister Keri (Bob) Dean, and her Bother Jack Lee (Sue) Nelson. She has twenty-two grandchildren and one great-grand baby on the way which she said, “I will find a way to see her before she comes.” She is proceeded in death by her parents, Jack and Rachel Nelson, her sister Mary Ann Burton, and one grandson, Colton Hadley.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 8 from 6-8 pm at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 am at the Centerville Pheasant Ward, 610 N. Rowland Way, Centerville, Utah following a greeting of family and many friends beginning at 9:00 am.
