Marie Maughan White

May 24, 1929 — July 22, 2021

Marie Maughan White, 92 our beloved mother and grandmother passed away at her home in Bountiful Utah on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

She was born on May 24, 1929, in Hyrum, Utah to Robert Baxter and Marvel Petersen Maughan. She was the youngest of six children. She often talked about being a tackle dummy for her brothers Murray and Ralph, who were both Football standouts at Utah State University. Her parents moved to Soda Springs, Idaho when she was in the fifth grade. When it was time for college, she moved to Logan and attended Utah State University. The summer of 1949 she went to Casper, Wyoming for work. That is where she met her future husband, Dale Porter White. First, she became his pianist and a year later August 30, 1950, she became his eternal companion in the Logan, Utah Temple. Dale passed away on February 16, 2006.

After several years of school at BYU and Utah State, Marie and Dale decided to move to Southern California so Dale could seriously study theater arts at the Pasadena Playhouse. Marie and Dale lived in Pasadena, California for 36 years raising their three children and running White Productions. Marie worked as a real estate agent for 20 years after her children were in school. They moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1990 to be closer to their grandchildren. She worked as a bookkeeper for her son at ATK Motorcycles up until she turned 90 years old.

She was a faithful and obedient member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many leadership positions. Marie was a beautiful seamstress, sewing most of the costumes for Dale’s shows and productions. She was an accomplished pianist. Her favorite people to accompany were her grandchildren at their recitals and concerts. She and Dale loved going to their cabin at Deer Springs Ranch, inviting friends and family to enjoy the beautiful views of Bryce Canyon. Above everything Marie loved being a mother and grandma.

She is survived by her two sons Frank (Vanett) White and Chris White of Bountiful; her son-in-law Scott Visser of Pella, Iowa; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Pam White. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale and her daughter Stephanie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, July 31, 2021, in the Moss Hill Ward Chapel, 455 South 1200 East Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 on Saturday prior to the services. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.
