Lianne Gibson Aiken

April 18, 1935 — November 12, 2021

Lianne Gibson Aiken passed away November 12, 2021, at the age 86. Lianne was born April 18, 1935, the second daughter of James Leland Gibson and Fern Wayment Gibson. The middle of three girls, Joyce was in charge and Carolyn was her best friend.

From the earliest time she could remember, Lianne had a great love of flowers. As a young girl she knew where every beautiful garden was located in the city of Ogden. From the time she was old enough to push the lawn mower, she took care of the maintenance of her family’s yard. Her love of gardens continued with a beautiful yard in each home she lived in. Every spring she looked forward to planting her flower gardens and even won several unsolicited beautification awards.

Music was an important part of her life. She played the piano, organ, and viola, performing with Joyce and Carolyn at many civic, church, and social functions throughout the Ogden area.

Lianne graduated from Ogden High School in 1953. She attended Weber College for two years and graduated in 1957 from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education. After graduation she began teaching at Central Junior High School. She taught at Central for over 20 years, only taking a break when her children were born. Later she moved to the Salt Lake area teaching at South High School from 1981 to 1988. After South High was closed in 1988, she moved to West High School teaching through 1990. She loved teaching, specializing in sewing with an emphasis on clothing. She also taught home economics, foods, child development, and consumer education. She worked very hard and was an influence for good in the lives of her students. Later in life, prior students would remember her and thank her for all they learned while in her classes.

Lianne married Harry Alexander in 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple and they had three wonderful children. They later divorced.  On March 19, 1987, Lianne married Leon Aiken and they were happily married for 28 years.

Lianne was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including ward organist for many years. She most enjoyed serving as a Relief Society teacher.

She is survived by her children, Ted Gibson Alexander (Lisa), George Phillip Alexander (Vikky) and Stephanie Lynne Alexander Fleming (Gordon), seven grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and her sister Carolyn Verkler. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Leon and her sister, Joyce.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah on Friday, November 19th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with the funeral following at 10:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank the compassionate care Lianne received from the caregivers at the Inn at Barton Creek, Rocky Mountain Hospice, and Brenda Bowen. Their dedication to serving Lianne gave her peace and contentment.
