Leslie M. Wassom

December 2, 1942 — April 9, 2021

Leslie Merrill Wassom, age 78, completed his life in morality on April 09, 2021. He was reunited with his eternal companion, Peggy Wassom, after only a month of being separated. In life, they were rarely apart and now they will be together forever. Les and Peggy were sealed in the Logan, Utah temple and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in August. He was born to Howard Merrill Wassom and Melba Thompson on Dec. 2, 1942, in Tremonton, Utah. He was an incredible athlete, and he played many sports in high school including football, basketball, and track. He was state champion in two running events. He easily made friends wherever he went, and cultivated many lasting relationships. Les was an amazing dad and husband, and dearly loved and respected by all. Les loved his family and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a very hard worker, and for most of his adult life, he was a Store Director for Albertson’s, Inc. His job allowed him to live in many cities and states. Eventually Les’ job moved him and Peggy to Grand Junction, Colorado. They loved the area so much they decided to retire there.
We remember Les as a strong man with many admirable attributes. He was honest, kind and never judged anyone. He was a natural leader and motivated people to do their best. He led by example. He lived his life with exactness and order, paying attention to every detail. This quality made him a successful manager. He loved a groomed yard and organized home. Les was an avid outdoorsman. He spent much of his free time in the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and trail riding. Les took many pack trips to Alaska and other wilderness areas to hunt and fish. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he fulfilled multiple callings in his life, but the ones he enjoyed the most were the ones he and Peggy could do together. They served many years as church service missionaries. Service was the hallmark of his life. He devoted many hours in serving others and found great joy in doing it.
Les is survived by his daughter Wendi (Kevin) Gleaves, and his son Bart (Amy) Wassom. His seven grandchildren also survive him: Amanda (Alan) Jolley, Garrett (Megan) Gleaves, Alyssa (Dean) Winslow, Blake (Francesca) Wassom, Conner (Katelyn) Wassom, Mitchell (Nicole) Wassom, and Rachel Wassom. Also, thirteen great grandchildren: Jaida, Zachary, Ashton, Ethan, Sophia, Cambrie, Kaya, Bentley, Navy, Harper, Braelyn, Oliver, and Liliana. As well as, his brother Don (Diane) Wassom, Sister Barbara (Hank) Olsen, and is brother in law Wally (Barbara) Petersen.
He was preceded in death by his bride Peggy, his parents, his in-laws Grant and Beth Petersen, and his grandson Ryan Chambers, and great granddaughter Evee Chambers.
Our hearts ache with this temporary separation, but we are comforted with the assurance that we will all be together again.
We want express our thanks and gratitude to everyone who has done so much for Les and Peggy at this difficult time: Family, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, ward members and first responders.
