Leona Katherine Hollingsworth

June 6, 1934 — July 9, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and sister-in-law Leona Hollingsworth passed away gently, surrounded by an abundance of love, on July 9, 2022.

Leona married the love of her life, John C. Hollingsworth, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado in 1952.

Soon she was blessed with five beautiful children.  “I love you SO much”, was what she told each of her children every time they talked.  Leona lived her life full of love, especially for her family.

Leona was a musical aficionado.  She sang and also easily played numerous musical instruments, seventeen at last count, until she was no longer able to play (her favorites being the piano and violin).  She shared this love of music with her husband John (both sang and played instruments).

Her true aspirations in life were to be a loving wife to John and mother to her children.

Leona loved sports!  She loved skiing, golfing, dancing, and watching football and basketball.  She could dance “The Jitterbug” like no other!

She was a member of the Salt Lake Motorcycle Club with her husband.  Many of her excursions were charitable rides.  She also enjoyed her flying adventures with John and her family.

Leona loved traveling.  She traveled abroad numerous times and enjoyed it with friends and family.

One of her most fulfilling endeavors was her employment at the University of Utah.  She worked in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology for 53 years.  She worked alongside Dr. Larry Jung helping to establish the newborn I.C.U. back in the 1960’s.

Leona was gifted in knowing how to do so many things easily.  She was a lifelong learner.  She enjoyed being meticulous and had an incredible eye for detail.

Leona was genuinely kind, gentle, and radiant.  Anyone who had the good fortune of knowing her was blessed by her innate “sparkle”!  She lived life to the fullest and strived to always have fun!

Leona was preceded in death by Sheila Marie Hollingsworth (daughter); John C. Hollingsworth (husband); Jeffery Burleson (son-in-law); Leonard and Almyra Webb (parents); and Larry, Leon, Gary, and Bobby Webb (brothers).

Leona is survived by her children Steve, Scott (Josette), Michael (Brenda) Hollingsworth, and Shelly Burleson (Rev. Robin Swope), in addition to numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

A special thank-you to Rocky Mountain Home Care for their amazing level of expertise and dedication to Leona.

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday July 15, 2022, at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful, Utah.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Bountiful Community Church, 150 North 400 East, Bountiful, Utah.  Officiating will be Reverend Robin Swope.

A graveside dedication follows the service at Lakeview Memorial Park, 1640 Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.

“You’ll find that life is still worthwhile if you just smile.”
