Judith Lynn Acree

October 18, 1946 — March 3, 2022

Judith Lynn Acree, age 75, passed peacefully from this life the evening of March 3, 2022 at her home in Bountiful, Utah.  She is survived by her son Ryan Acree and daughter-in-law Casey Oppermann of Bountiful, grand-daughter Andaria Acree of Bountiful, sister Carolyn Fish of Dayton, OH, brother David Acree of West Valley City, UT, and brother Ike Acree of Fairborne, OH.

Judy began her life experience 18 October 1946 at Monroe, Louisiana.  She was the first born to live for her mother, Lillian Pauline Bayles, and her father, James Armond Acree.  Her earliest years were spent playfully on their farm in rural Downsville, Louisiana.  It was here her love for family began where she felt the love and struggles of an extended family network.  Throughout her life she was visiting relatives and graveyards trying to capture stories of those she dearly loved.

From her mother and Granny Bayles she developed a love of flowers that always seemed to brighten her days.

Judy graduated from West Monroe High School in West Monroe, Louisiana where her family had moved.  She went on to complete a B.S. degree in Elementary Education at Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, Louisiana.

In 1973 she paused her teaching career to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was assigned for 18 months in the South American country of Chile.  She described this as perhaps the busiest and happiest time in her life.  She dedicated herself completely to a cause she believed in with all her heart, developing a passionate love that never left her for the Chilean people nor for the elders and sisters she served with.

Judy was known for her imagination along with her creativity as a teacher.  She found joy in her teaching despite its challenges.  She treasured her summers when traveling adventures were sure to occur with her son, Ryan, and later with her grand-daughter, Andaria.

In her later years Judy experienced significant health challenges that dampened her ability to do all she wanted.  Still, she retained an optimism that never allowed setbacks to completely discourage her.  She naturally loved, accepted, and became friends with the lonely or isolated even when her own limitations frustrated her.

She loved her family, her friends, the beauty of nature, and perhaps most of all she loved and trusted God, knowing she would see us all again.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful.

The memorial service will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page.
