Joseph Solomon Norman Brousseau

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Joseph Solomon Norman Brousseau, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022.

Joe was born September 16, 1939, in Norton, Vermont, to Solomon Joseph and Alice Marie Simone Bourque Brousseau. He was the oldest of five children. Speaking French as his first language, he enjoyed an adventurous childhood in the beautiful mountains of northern Vermont in the shadows of Brousseau Mountain. Joe learned early to love hunting, fishing, and swimming in Averill Lake. He excelled at playing basketball and baseball and enjoyed playing the bass drum in the school marching band.

After graduating from Canaan High School, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and honorably served his country for four years, stationed in Alaska and Texas.

Following his military service, Joe returned to Vermont where he met the love of his life and eternal companion, Kathryn Danaher in 1967. They were married in 1968 in The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, Vermont. They welcomed four children into their family. Joe’s children were his pride and joy. He loved attending their many sporting events, activities and spending time together as a family, always planting seeds of faith and conviction in the hearts of his children.

Joe and Kathy became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1975 and were sealed in the Washington, DC temple in 1976. His stalwart testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ became the foundation of his life. He was willing to sacrifice all to follow the teachings of the Savior. His posterity will thank him for generations for his example of faithful discipleship.

Joe owned The Whistle Stop store and Brousseau Insurance Agency in Essex Junction, Vermont. After retirement, Joe and Kathy moved to Farmington, Utah, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Joe’s influence on his posterity has been profound and timeless. Joe sang “Baptism” at every grandchild’s baptism, which will be a precious memory for each of them. He loved to tell them stories about his childhood and made them laugh with his funny sayings. He also attended every concert, play, recital and sporting event that he could, making sure each grandchild felt valued.

Joe had a powerful singing voice and cherished childhood memories singing in the choir with his mother and sister. Joe was a born entertainer and was the life of the party when he played his guitar and sang favorite family songs. He shared his musical talents and testimony for seven years in the Christmas drama, Savior of the World, performed on Temple Square, which was a life-changing experience for his whole family.

Joe had a magnetic way of making anyone he met feel like they were the most important person in his life. He gave affectionate nicknames, and playfully teased others, easily becoming fast friends. With an optimistic personality, Joe naturally looked for the good in others and saw the bright side of life.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Yvette Carrier and Yvonne Duprey. He is survived by his sweetheart, Kathy, his children, Michael (Tracy), Mark (Alisa), Michelle (David) Frank and Matthew (Katie), 16 grandchildren, Chris (Jess), Maddie, Kenzie (Conner), Zachary (Jess), Steve, Solomon (Ecko), Joshua, Addie, Daniel, Sarah, Hyrum, Jackson, Grayson, Samuel, Alex and Emma and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Annette, and his brother, Phil (Ethel).

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the LDS Chapel located at 980 Shepard Church Drive, Farmington, Utah. Friends and family may visit Tuesday between 11:00 and 11:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at the Farmington City Cemetery.
