John E Carter

December 23, 1949 — May 28, 2021

John Eugene Carter our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away on May 28, 2021 from complications due to cancer.

He was born on December 23, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Glen and Lois Carter.  He graduated from Bonneville High School and served in the California Central LDS Mission.  He married Rachel (Renae) Tidwell on February 14, 1974 in the Ogden LDS Temple.

John graduated from Weber State College with a degree in Sociology and Aerospace Studies.  He worked for Davis County Department of Corrections as an Adult Probation and Parole Officer.  He worked for the Davis County Sheriff’s Department and served as Justice of the Peace for Syracuse City for 9 years.  He worked as a Detective for Davis County Drug Court.  He taught Drug and Alcohol classes for Davis Behavioral Health.  John was a proud member of the Utah Army Reserve National Guard and served as Company Commander in the 19th Special Forces.  He retired in 2009 earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He was currently employed at Clearfield Job Corp. in the Transportation Department.

John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He served faithfully in many callings.  John served as a missionary with his wife Rachel in the LDS Addiction and Recovery Program.  He also served a mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Kaysville Utah.

John was such a great grandpa and was so proud of his grandchildren Sadie, Jack, Leo and Hayden.

He is survived by his four children; Ryan (Lisa) Carter, Justin, Kelly and Nathan (Nicole) Carter.  John is also survived by his siblings; Alan, Connie (Dave) Neylan and David (Julie) Carter.  He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Lois Carter.

A viewing will be held at Russon Mortuary & Crematory in Syracuse, Utah on Friday June 4th from 6-8 pm.  1585 W 300 S, Syracuse Utah.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 5th, 2021 at 11:00 am at the 2500 W 700 S LDS Chapel in Syracuse Utah.

Interment will be at the Syracuse City Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Davis Hospital ICU and Dr. Jason Stinnett and his staff for their loving care during John’s illness.
