JoAnn Allen Gottschalk
November 30, 1936 – April 29, 2021
Surrounded by her family, our beloved JoAnn Allen Gottschalk returned peacefully to her heavenly home April 29, 2021.
She was born November 30, 1936 in Pocatello, Idaho to Harold Henderson Allen and Eva Arvilla Simmons Allen.
She grew up in Salt Lake City and Granger where she attended Cyprus High School.
In 1956, she became engaged to her sweetheart Walter H. Gottschalk and lovingly waited for him as he served a 2 1/2 -year mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Just twenty days after his return they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on February 20, 1959.
They settled in Sunset, Utah where she spent her days building a home centered in Christ and raising five cherished children.
Family was everything to JoAnn. She adored each one as they all gathered for food and fun every third Sunday. She delighted in attending their many events. Birthdays were remembered with a specially handcrafted card and a dinner out with Grandma and Grandpa. Holidays were always such a joy with Grandma Jo.
JoAnn touched countless lives as a dear friend, neighbor, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in various callings.
She treasured her friendships and for many years spent Wednesdays with the Out-to-Lunch Bunch.
As an expert seamstress she created intricate quilts, dance costumes, wedding attire, and uniforms for the entire cheer squad. She communicated her great love by blessing each family member with their own special quilt. Her many talents of oil painting, crocheting, crafting and scrapbooking blessed endless others too as she gifted her beautiful creations.
JoAnn devoted her life to God and family, and her light and compassion continue to shine through her husband Walter, her children, JillAnn (Joseph A.) Garcia, Sandee Gottschalk (Brett Morse), Heidi (Bruce K.) Thurgood, Eric (Julie) Gottschalk, and Aimee (David) Baugh, 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the Syracuse Russon Mortuary, 1585 West 300 South, Monday, May 3, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, with the graveside service to follow at 1:00 pm.
