Jay E. Fowers

December 15, 1941 — October 30, 2021

Jay E. Fowers 1941 ~ 2021 Syracuse, UT

-Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Son, Brother and Friend, Jay passed away peacefully October 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Floyd and Cora Fowers, Jay was born a twin on December 15, 1941 in Ogden, Utah and was raised in Hooper, Utah.

After graduating from Weber High School, he was later called to The Southern Far East Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he spent 2 ½ years in Hong Kong teaching the Restored Gospel in Cantonese. Upon his return, Jay studied business and finance at Weber State College.

Jay married his dear sweetheart Marilyn Taylor on February 26, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised three sons and one daughter in Hooper, Utah. Jay worked full-time for Geneva Rock for over 25 years and often picked up additional work shoeing horses and taking driving jobs. Later in life, he shared his passion for horses by teaching Western riding lessons to his grandchildren and local youth.

Jay was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served selflessly in many callings and most recently with Marilyn as a church service missionary at Temple Square where he loved to share his experiences as a missionary in Hong Kong and attend Music and the Spoken Word.

Jay enjoyed life and people. His life was exemplified by kindness, humility, compassion, generosity, service, and hard work. He raised his family making an honest living with a strong back and a warm heart. He loved journeying into the mountains to hunt, fish, camp, cook, and ride his horses. He passed on that love of mountain air to his children and grandchildren.

One of his favorite roles that he took on in life developed in the last 30 years as he became “Grandpa Jay”. He adored each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent as much time as he could supporting them in their sports and interests. Jay and Marilyn enjoyed family gatherings as their family meant everything to them.

Jay is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 56 years; son Chad (Stacy) Fowers; daughter Lundee (Russell) Holmes; son Cody (Amy) Fowers; son Braden Fowers; 12 grandchildren Emilee, Corbin, Katelyn, Chase, Madison, Alexa, Hadley, Chloe, Teah, Trey, Cord, Rylee; 6 great grandchildren; sisters Carolyn, Leah, Dana and Sheri, brothers Ray and Dale.
