Janice Kaye Bangerter Dean

August 30, 1939 — March 1, 2022

Janice Kaye Bangerter Dean passed away on March 1, 2022 at her home in Bountiful, Utah, at the age of 82.

Janice was born on August 30,1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eugene Wilford and Lillian Charlotte Bangerter. She was the youngest of seven children. The family resided in Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from Bountiful High School in 1957. She attended both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah and later graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education.

She married Donald Russell Dean on June 9, 1961 in the Salt Lake City Temple. The Army took the newlyweds to Georgia, Massachusetts, and Texas. Following their military service, Don and Janice moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, for three years, where their two oldest children were born. In 1968, the family relocated to Bountiful, Utah, where four more children were born, and where she continued to live until her passing.

Janice loved children. She taught school for 23 years in Texas, Colorado, and Utah. Janice enjoyed gardening, canning, indexing, watching movies, and traveling. Janice particularly loved trips to the beach. Hawaii was one of her favorite vacation spots. One of the most memorable family trips was a three-week trek in the van and tent trailer to church history and American heritage sites across the United States. In more recent years, Janice brought her entire family together to Bear Lake for several family reunions.

Janice was a very generous and thoughtful person. She loved gathering the family together for celebrations. Food was one of her love languages. One of the highlights in her later years was taking treats to her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed various callings in Young Women, Primary, Relief Society, and Family History.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald; parents Eugene and Lillian; and siblings Genie, Shirley, Keith, Richard, Gay, and Betty.

Janice is survived by her children Deborah (Paul) Young, Darren (Sheri), Douglas (Melissa) DeAnn (Ryan) Westergard, David (Lisa), and Donald J. (Catherine); 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Jim (Laura Young), brother-in-law Darl Hansen, sister-in-law Julie (Dan) Watanabe, and many nieces and nephews.

Janice’s children would like to express their sincere appreciation to grandchildren Natalie and Tona, and to their children, for their dedicated care of Mom for the past five years.
