Harry Bruce Wicker

January 17, 1941 — October 18, 2021

Harry Bruce Wicker passed away on October 18, 2021, at his home in Bountiful, Utah.

Harry was born to Orin Walter and Ellen L. Hayes Wicker on January 17, 1941, in Bountiful, Utah. He went to Bountiful High School and worked with his Dad on the farm throughout his school years.

He married Melanie Lucille Little on April 28th, 1973, her birthday, so he wouldn’t forget! They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had two children: Michelle Louise and Trace Bruce. Trace preceded him in death on January 4th, 1994. Melanie preceded him on January 2nd, 2017.

Over the course of his life, he worked as a Brick Mason (20 years), and he worked at the Deseret News/Tribune Newspaper Warehouse in SLC. He picked up the bundles and dropped them off at the carriers’ houses. It was a graveyard shift, but he loved it because it was nice and quiet so he could think!

Even though Harry did not particularly like farming with his Dad, he did retain that knowledge and planted many gardens at home resulting in tomatoes, pumpkins, zucchini, etc. He also spent time designing his front yard with flowers, cactus, and fun shaped trees! We even had a real wagon in our yard which we enjoyed for many years!

As a family we loved to go to Disneyland and Disney World. Harry and Melanie traveled along the coast and went to see the Redwood Trees. Another favorite travel location was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to see the Bar J Wranglers!

Harry made his mark during his most favorite holiday of Christmas! For 23 years he played Santa Claus in our yard! He absolutely loved it! The yard was majestically transformed into a Christmas Wonderland with homemade wood projects, as well as, the popular air-blown inflatables, His youngest visitor was 2 weeks old, and the oldest was 101 years old. He always had candy canes for the kids and a special Christmas message on a scroll for the adults.

Santa wanted to remember the reason for the season by creating a Missionary Tree for the ward members and the parents would bring a picture to hang on the tree and let us know how their missionary was doing. His son, Trace, was already a missionary up in heaven, but we kept track of all his friends in the ward when they served. The same happened when his daughter, Michelle, served her mission, too!

There are so many highlights and memories, too many to post here, but suffice it to say, the Wicker family feels very blessed to have so many friends and family that shared their time with us during that special season each year!

Harry is survived by his daughter, Michelle Louise Wicker, and two sisters: Jennie Stringham and Fawn Felt. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Melanie, and his son Trace Bruce. Additionally, from a previous marriage, he is survived by three sons: Wally, Jeff, and Mike. He is preceded in death by his oldest son, Doug Wicker.

Our family wishes to thank many doctors and nurses who helped Harry as his health declined. A special thank you to Mackenzie, Lisa, Justin, Jasmine, Sharlene, Penny, Tina, and lastly MarKae from Dignity Hospice. They are truly professional angels here on earth that helped my Dad and I through this season in our life. We also had excellent care from Visiting Angels, too.
