Harold Lowell Richards

May 2, 1928 — September 7, 2021

Harold Lowell Richards died peacefully in his sleep at the South Jordan Legacy House on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the age of 93. Lowell was born in Ogden, Utah, on May 2, 1928, to his parents John Harold Richards and Doris Elizabeth Chase. Preceding his death were his parents and siblings, Robert Byron Richards, Cleone Richards Weston, Stephen John Richards, and Janette Richards Campbell.

After 5 very long years, he is now reunited with the love of his life, Luana Green Richards, who died on August 29, 2016. Lowell and Luana were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1951. They are the parents of 8 children, Lisa Richards Monson (Doug), Ryan Lowell Richards (Mary), Carrie Richards Meek (Robert), Danielle Richards Tuttle (Alan), Reese John Richards (Shauna), Jenny Richards Brown (Nathan), Regan Harold Richards (Becca), and Cassie Richards Mosier (Tony). He is survived by his 31 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Lowell served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After his military service, he returned to Utah and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Finance. He worked for many years in the banking and finance industry. The most satisfying part of his career was spent working in the Missionary Department for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He assisted with missionary assignments and related many inspiring stories.

Lowell was devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his life was spent in church service in various leadership positions. He served as a young missionary in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. Later in life, he and Luana served missions in the Johannesburg, South Africa Mission (South Africa/Botswana/Swaziland), the Singapore Mission (Pakistan/East Malaysia), and the Fiji, Suva Mission (Vanuatu).

Besides his dear wife Luana, his posterity was his pride and joy. He loved every minute he could sit and listen to his family talk and laugh.  He longed for family visits, was always so happy to see his family, and always asked to come again soon. Dad was quiet, friendly, and funny. He loved being with family and always preached to us to live the gospel so we could all be together forever.
