Harold Lamb Hancey

February 9, 1934 — March 24, 2022

Harold Lamb Hancey passed away March 24, 2022 in his home in Bountiful, Utah after a battle with prostate cancer.  He was born February 9, 1934 in Logan, Utah to Gladys and Leslie Hancey.  He grew up in Hyde Park, Utah.

In 1952 Harold began attending Utah State University majoring in Electrical Engineering.  In 1954 he met the love of his life, Erma Jean Call, on a blind date and regularly drove from Cache Valley to Bountiful to date her.  They were married September 9, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple and then returned to Utah State where they made their first home.

After graduating in 1957, Harold began his career at Sperry Univac in Salt Lake City.  While there he worked on the MGM-29 Sergeant missile system.  He then worked for Evans and Sutherland developing early computer graphics systems.  He later worked for Utah Power and Light (Pacific Corp) as a lighting and substation specialist.

Harold and his father built a new home in Bountiful for Harold’s and Erma Jean’s growing family in 1964. They lovingly raised their four girls in that home.  Harold was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled various callings which included serving a mission with his wife at the Salt Lake City Family History Center.

Harold loved to travel beginning when he was a child with his parents and brother.  He loved southern Utah and enjoyed exploring the red-rock country with his father, brother and nephews. He and Erma Jean traveled to numerous places in the United States and Europe.  Harold had many hobbies and interests including gardening, oil painting, vintage automobiles, photography, car shows, woodworking, and collecting license plates.  Most of all he loved his family and getting together with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Todd Killian.  He is survived by his beloved wife Erma Jean; his older brother Spencer Hancey; daughters Cathy (Randy) Wade, Marie Killian, Karen (Kent) Winterton, Linda (Ron) Richey; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Bountiful Utah Stone Creek Stake Center located at 1476 North 300 West, Bountiful.  The funeral will follow at 1:00 pm.  Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. Streaming will begin 10-15 minutes prior to services and the video will appear below the obituary.
