Glenn Eugene Winterrowd

September 2, 1933 — March 29, 2022

Glenn Eugene Winterrowd passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 29, 2022. His wife, Barbara Lynn, was by his side. His last words to his family were “I love you.” He was and is loved.

Glenn was born on September 2, 1933 in San Diego, California. His parents were Glenn Eugene Winterrowd Sr. and Carol Elizabeth Weckerly.

Glenn was a son, brother, husband, father, friend, and devoted disciple of Christ. He was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel and studying the scriptures. Glenn was a diligent worker. In his life he worked as a soldier, driving an army jeep during the Korean War. He was a builder and helped create many things including the Oroville Dam which opened in May 1968. He was a dairyman in Missouri and would rise each day in the early morning hours to milk cows. He was a farmer and raised crops to feed the dairy cows. He was a skilled mechanic working on heavy machinery for Granite Construction and would often rise before 4 a.m. to get to a job site. He worked as a firefighter, battling forest fires all over the West. This entrepreneurial spirit extended into his retirement years when he started “Winterrowd Brothers Trucking” with his brother, Dick.

Glenn was a life-long learner. He studied plant science for one year at California Polytechnic State University. He taught himself woodworking and crafted many beautiful works including beds, desks, shelves, tables, and chairs.

Glenn loved music and enjoyed singing in his high school choir at Grossmont High School and later in church choirs. Glenn also participated in FFA, raising and showing beef cattle.

Glenn enjoyed the outdoors and mountains, taking his children backpacking, hiking, camping, and fishing.  His love of God’s creations is something he passed on to his children.

Glenn was a master gardener. He planted a meticulous garden and tended wonderful fruit trees that still bloom today. Glenn and Barbara preserved the fruits and vegetables of their garden for their family to enjoy, often spending hot August mornings around a camp stove in the California heat to seal the jars that lined their shelves.

Glenn served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ including as a Primary teacher, genealogist, temple worker, bishopric member, high councilor and much-loved home teacher as he ministered to his fellow ward members and neighbors. Glenn was faithful and honest. He was also stubborn and determined. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met and had a dry sense of humor. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
