Floyd Wilbur Peterson

November 8, 1926 — April 23, 2021

Floyd Wilbur Peterson of Layton, Utah, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021.

He was born November 8,1926, in Logan, Utah, to Annie Barker Poppleton and Franklin Olif Peterson. He was one of five sons (commonly known in Cache Valley as “The Peterson Gang”) and one daughter.  He attended Cache Valley schools and graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1952 followed by a master’s degree in 1957.
He served in the United States Army 9th infantry as a Second Lieutenant during both WWII and the Korean War.

After his discharge from the military, he began his career as an educator, teaching at East Carbon High, Dugway Elementary, Hilltop Elementary, Vae View Elementary, and Kaysville Junior High schools. He retired in 1988, but he never quit learning new things or teaching all of us.

Dad married his sweetheart, Sharon Michaelis (Bugs), in the Logan Temple on June 29,1951. Together they had eight children. Their commitment to raising a family that played and worked together has created a legacy and bond for each of us that many families never get to experience. The family has grown exponentially over the years to an amazing 34 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with 2 more on the way!  Together they served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Spokane, Washington.

Floyd is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Sharon; four sons and four daughters–Mike & (Bonnie) Peterson, Rigby, Idaho; Geri & (Jon) Titus, Smithfield, Utah; Doug & (Cindy) Peterson, Beaver, Utah; Carol & (Layne) Stephens, Kaysville, Utah; Bart & (Carrie) Peterson, Layton, Utah; Lynette & (Brent) Bogden, Kaysville, Utah; Bonnie Peterson & (David Burke), St. Louis, Missouri; Brian & (Debbie) Peterson, South Weber, Utah; and brother Dennis & (Marion) Peterson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Shirley (Paul) Weller; brothers Louis, Jay Clyde (Bud), and Carl; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 789 East Wasatch Drive, Layton, Utah.  The family will receive friends and family on Monday, April 26, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1585 West 300 South, Syracuse, Utah, and prior to services at the church on Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Internment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
