Evelyn Espenschied Erickson

d. October 11, 2006

Evelyn Ruth Espenschied Erickson was born 13 March 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the 5th child of August Espenschied and Anna Helene Gronau Espenschied. She had a good childhood and attended Hawthorne School, South Jr. High and graduated from South High School in 1936. The family attended the Hawthorne Ward. Evelyn met Arol Edwin Erickson on a blind date while he was stationed at the Salt Lake airport with the peacetime Army Air Corps. Arol and Evelyn were married 27 July 1941 in Evanston, Wyoming and lived in Salt Lake until the outbreak of World War II. At the outbreak of the war, Arol was employed at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian. Evelyn worked as a telephone operator for the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company from April 1936 until 1973 when she retired. They had two children, David and Barbara. After the war the Ericksons purchased a home at 30 South Main St., Farmington, Utah. In the fall of 1985 the Ericksons bought a new home in Lynden, Washington. Arol died 17 January 1988 and was buried in the Lynden Cemetery. In June 2002 Arol was disinterred and interred in the cemetery in Farmington, Utah. In 1990 Evelyn moved to King City, Oregon to be close to the recently completed Portland LDS Temple. While working in the temple she met James Milton Haydon who was also a temple worker. The couple wed 29 November 1995. Evelyn served in numerous capacities in the LDS church. Most of her callings were with the Relief Society but she always felt the best and most rewarding job was working in the nursery. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Arol Edwin Erickson, her granddaughter Jennifer Erickson, and her second husband, James Milton Haydon. She is survived by her brother Bryan Espenschied of Centerville, Utah, son David Arol Erickson of North Salt Lake City, Utah and her daughter Barbara Evelyn Erickson Smith of Spokane, Washington. At her departure she left two children, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren with two additional great-grandchildren expected. Evelyn was loved in her many family relationships as daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her memory is etched into the many lives she touched and she will be missed often for many years to come. With great respect, admiration, gratitude and love on 11 October 2006 Evelyn slipped peacefully away to join her family members who preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held in Spokane Valley, WA on October 17, 2006. Another memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 at the Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 No. Main St., Bountiful, UT with the viewing at 9:45 AM and the service at 11:00 AM. Her remains will be laid to rest beside her eternal companion, Arol, in the Farmington City Cemetery.
