Elizabeth ?Betty? Udy Smith Jackman, age 90, passed away at her home on Sunday, January 7, 2007. Born August 16, 1916 in Farmington, Utah the only daughter of Frank Hess and Ethel B. Udy. She was the youngest of 3 children. Preceded in death by her brothers, Maurice Frank Udy and James Mathias Udy. She married Henry Orville Smith on December 6, 1934. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 29, 1939. Their children are Betty Lu Smith Schryver Ellis, Suzanne Smith Schreiber and Franklin Orville Patricia Smith. They were later divorced. He passed away May 21, 1980. She married Clifford S. Jackman on December 31, 1964. Lennis Jackman Howell is her step-daughter from this marriage. She has 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She has lived in Malta, Idaho; Los Angeles, California; Salt Lake City, Farmington and Bountiful, Utah. She graduated from Davis High School in 1933. She was employed as a manager for 15 years by See?s Candy Co. in Los Angeles, California. After moving back to Utah she worked for the Food Service in Davis County Schools for 11 years before retiring in 1982. She is an active member of the LDS Church. She was a Primary teacher, a mutual teacher and Dance Director in her earlier years. She especially enjoyed being Dance Director in the Mutual. She was a 3rd generation member of the DUP, belonging to the Heritage DUP Camp. She loved cooking or at least she used to, she said, laughing which got her through many trials in her life, tending her beautiful yard with many flowers and vegetables, many different kinds of handwork knitting Christmas stockings for each of her great-grandchildren, and making a dated, keepsake plastic canvas Christmas Ornament for all her family and friends for 20 years, many other plastic canvas projects, tole painting, crocheting, cross-stitch and other embroidery. She was an excellent seamstress and loved beadwork. Her home is filled with decorations she has made for each season of the year. She loved music, dancing and especially visiting with her many friends. All who knew her were delighted by her wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter. She is survived by two daughters and one son: Betty Lu Smith Schryver Ellis, Kaysville; Suzanne Smith Schreiber, Bountiful; and Franklin Orville Patti Smith, Syracuse; one step-daughter, Lennis Jackman Howell, Anderson, California; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Orchard 2nd Ward Chapel, 3707 South 800 West, Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Friday morning from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Farmington City Cemetery.
