Eileen Ogilvie Ipson

January 22, 1925 — August 1, 2022

B. Eileen Ogilvie Ipson, 97, passed away peacefully at home August 1, 2022. Born in Garfield, Utah, on January 22, 1925 to Ida and William G. Ogilvie. Eileen was raised in Salt Lake City and lived through the great depression and then the war years of 1942-1945. In 1946, at a sacrament meeting of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she sat next to Grant J. Ipson. After a two-year courtship, Grant and Eileen were married for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple on July 28, 1948. It was during the lean depression years she learned to rely on the Lord. This deep love of the Lord was taught to her 6 children. In the 1930’s the freight trains would slow down in front of her house and the bums (the unemployed) would hop off and knock at her front door. Even though her family were, in her words, “poor de-poor, de-poor,” her mother would always make a sandwich for them. Eileen learned compassion from all this. This compassion and love were her trademark. She was a trained artist and shared this talent throughout her life. Always in involved in PTA; if they needed posters, with her artistic skills, she’d make a free professional poster. At church, if the youth needed background painting for a play or skit, she volunteered. She enjoyed teaching and sharing how to draw and paint with her grandchildren. With their children and after the children were grown, she and Grant enjoyed vacationing each summer. She loved to travel. An avid genealogist, Eileen spent endless hours in family history research and in doing temple work. She and Grant served a mission in the Family-to-Family Book of Mormon program and served many years in the Salt Lake Temple. Eileen had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it showed in her countenance.
She is survived by her children, Karenann (Loren), Michael (Deborah), Mark (Rebecca), Reuel (Becky), Idajean (Mark), and Amber (Roy), 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters-in-law, Liz and Loretta. Besides her husband, parents, and eight siblings, she was preceded in death by one grandson and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Rose Park North Stake Center, south chapel, 1155 North 1200 West, SLC. A viewing will be on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful and Friday, 9:45 – 10:45 am at the church.
